Yeah, I haven't picked up any myself but they do look to be high-quality emulations, Milner. Hamster has forged a huge range of them!

I couldn't recall the game but I looked it up and it seems to be a dark survival horror title, Fisher? It sounds quite scary, dude!

Good thing is it's too late now. The files out there, the PC version of Super Mario 64 they haven't been able to take down either and there's thousands of romhacks at this point.

I think people need to stop drawing attention to this though, the second people start trying to make money with it the lawyers will step in.

Great stuff, Fisher! Do you think that you might try and create a whole level?

Nintendo acquire Shiver Entertainment from Embracer Group

Nintendo Co., Ltd. (HQ: Kyoto, Japan, President and Representative Director: Shuntaro Furukawa; hereinafter "Nintendo") hereby announces that it has entered into an agreement with Embracer Group AB (HQ: Karlstad, Sweden, CEO: Lars Wingefors)to acquire 100% of the outstanding shares of Shiver Entertainment, Inc. (HQ: Miami, Florida, U.S; CEO: John Schappert; hereinafter "Shiver") and to make it a wholly owned subsidiary (the "Acquisition").

Shiver is a video game development company that develops software for multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch. Since its establishment in 2012, Shiver has partnered with publishers and developers through commissions for large scale title developments, and recently, has worked on porting and developing software titles such as Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1. Nintendo will acquire 100% of the outstanding shares of Shiver and make it a wholly owned subsidiary. By welcoming Shiver's experienced and accomplished development team, Nintendo aims to secure high-level resources for porting and developing software titles. Going forward, even after it becomes a part of the Nintendo group, Shiver's focus will remain the same, continuing commissions that port and develop software for multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch.

As per the above, they worked on Switch ports of MK1 and Hogwarts Legacy which were impressive given the tech they were working with.

Interesting, so it seems they will be kept primarily a port studio, which could potentially mean porting old Nintendo titles to Switch/Switch 2 but also enhanced ports/upgrades of Switch games for Switch 2? They may also act as an assist studio on 3rd party ports for Switch 2, exciting times!

Whatever happened to their previous port studio, Grezzo? Well, I don't think they owned them, but certainly used them a fair bit, maybe this is going to be a replacement for Grezzo?

Grezzo seem to be similar to Intelligent Systems where in they are not owned by Nintendo but mostly work on Nintendo games. Grezzo dropped the Links Awakenijg remake in 2019? So I would guess they have a game ready to drop in 2024/2025.

They did Miitopia as well didn't they? Still been a few years since their last game for the Switch though.

They did indeed, looking at the last few years they have done

Luigi’s Mansion port to 3DS (2018)
Links Awakening remake (2019)
Miitopia (2021)

Then they released Jet Dragon in 2023 for IOS. You would imagine Nintendo have them on a Zelda again, few possibilities

OoT/MM 3D collection for Switch
Remake of Ages/Seasons
Port of Link Between Worlds
Brand new 2D Zelda

I still think a remake of Ages/Seasons feels the most likely project they have in the oven. Would be nice to let them have a go at making a brand new 2D Zelda though.

interesting. i guess a company that helps bring more games to the switch is the kind of asset you'd want

Yeah  they also did Hogwarts Legacy I believe. I think they did the best they could with the tech in the Switch but I don't think either are perfect ports.

I thought, except for the loading times, Hogwarts Legacy was meant to be quite a decent port of it?

The Switch version basically dropped the open world and became segmented areas instead. I don’t think it was a bad port by all accounts but it was downgraded quite a bit.

Yeah it was downgraded a fair bit, but it did seem like a game designed firstly for the current generation of more powerful consoles, then they decided to put it on the PS4/Xbox One era of consoles when the new consoles hadn't really taken off and then ported to something even weaker than those and still managed to get a solid port of it, I'd say they did a good job, probably not as good overall as The Witcher 3 though.
