The one about there only being a new Springfield is slightly wrong. They already had to leave the city behind once already so it's the third Springfield.

I was going to say, I'm pretty sure they've already had that storyline.

Incredible, a plotline that stupid and they've been running long enough to do it twice.

Trash of the Titans. It was a good episode though.

I hate that constant shadow that characters have on the edges of their bodies in new Simpsons. Just the whole look of the show since it went HD is so soulless.

I remember reading a Dead Homer Society piece on Homer Goes To College (easily up there as one of my all-time favourite episodes) and the writer makes a very good point about the animation. In these earlier seasons you could see small experimentations in how the characters were drawn, some aspects exaggerated which in turn made them far more expressive, while the HD episodes are very plain in thier design, almost like a goddamn CtrlAltDel comic.

And just for the hell of it, a gif from my absolute favourite episode:

You just don't get such unique artwork in new episodes.

A lot of it was part of the animation techniques. I think its called 'smear', where you'll exaggerate or blow up things that when animated appear more fluid. Looney Tunes has loads of it, its funny in stills but in motion it really works.

The problem is that with HD Simpsons and the likes, its all computerised animation so they just use character blanks to save time. There is a fantastic gif comparison of Marge in the old intro vs Marge in the new intro and its staggering the difference and complete lack of effort now. Ill dig it out later, in work atm.

Don't know why but the talk of experimental animation made me think of Bart the Murderer, for some reason there was always something about this bit that made me think "it looks the Simpsons but not quite".
