Had a Teaching Observation session today on a module I've been lecturing on all term. Bossed it. Biggest complaint was that it was somewhat difficult to see my slides in full light, but considering the dimmer switch doesn't work in the lecture theatre and the full lights are on the other side of the room, I'm not entirely sure how much of that blame I can shoulder...

Student feedback forms for the whole term were positive as well. One of them even gave me "respect". Their words, not mine.

jordo yeah 8-)

I'm sitting a 2hr biology exam tonight which will make up the final part of my coursework mark. I'm slightly nervous, tense and can't wait to get it completed.

Just "handed in" my fifth assignment. It was a pretty easy one since this is my first module. It was due tommorow and I finished touching it up today. It wasn't exactly difficult but it's still such a relief to get it handed in. I also signed up my interest for M250 Object-oriented Java programming which starts in October as Software development is where I want to head towards. It's a 30 pointer so I need to sign up for the other Java programming module but that doesn't start until next february so I have to wait for that.

I just got the results back on TMA01 for TU100 and am pleased enough with the result (90%). TMA02 looks quite easy as well so hopefully I will not be stuck until at least TMA03.

I didn't expect to, but I am loving the Sense programming at the moment. I have never done any programming before (other than copying cheats out of magazines for Commodore 64 games) and making polygons on screen probably isn't very impressive, but simple things please simple minds like mine. ;)

Erasmus application nearly finished. Should be early enough to give me a second application if I'm unsuccessful, but I think I'm the only person in the department applying to Spain, so I'm feeling confident about it.

Recently I've really been thinking about applying to GEM over the summer for when I graduate, it's something that I've considered before, but really keen on it now. Going to have to find some experience to check it's something that I actually want rather than a fleeting idea, but really excited at the moment. I'm hopefully doing a few medical modules next year, which should be great too (better than core engineering, at least)..

And exam results are in; averaged 69.75 %. Keeps the hope of a first alive (got 68 last year), just got to start focusing on my project again, which I've really ignored this past month (or three :shifty: ). The big project means I've only got two exams in the summer though, so should have plenty of revision time to do well in them.

Cheers dude.

It went okay. I'm so glad it's over and I can relax for a while.

^ Well done ^

Hows everyone's knowledge levels about ATP and ADP and the processes converting ADP back into ATP for energy? :shifty: :shifty:

Is it gaming the system to intentionally hand something in late because you think you'll gain more than the five marks you'll lose for handing it in a day late if you have the extra time that handing it in late will provide? Yes, I wouldn't have to think about this if I'd not assumed that the deadline was next Thursday as opposed to 4pm today, but still.

Have you found 1st year to be a big step up from access?

Should I be worried?

It's a step up, but you shouldn't be worried. Aside from one or two modules (of which I have 12 this year), it's mostly just an increase in volume as opposed to complexity. Put the time in and you'll be fine. I didn't put the time in and averaged around 55 last semester. I've put the time in so far this semester and my midterm assessments have been marked at 90 and 87, so it's pretty straightforward.

There was an interesting section of this years Royal Institution Christmas lectures that suggested that successful job applicants are either interviewed amongst the first group, the last group or if they were particularly memorable and stood out.

This phenomena is attributed to the way human memory works.

I think you may benefit if the lecturer reads your work last, but would it be a big enough increase to withstand the deduction? I don't know.

Nice marks on your midterms!

Thanks for your advice and taking the time to reply. That definitely puts my mind at ease.

Is it weird that I'm finding my postgrad easier than my undergrad :? . I'm finding the only issue is keeping up with the work but the majority of the work itself is pretty easy. *Awaits failing exams in the summer*

In my experience, Undergraduate is lots of new stuff to process whereas postgraduate is the complex version but essentially more of the same. Plus you know how everything works and should be more settled...

Unrelated to uni, but I am thinking of starting an evening course at the local art college. Just as something to do with my evening.

Can you not find them at a library somewhere? I've been at university for 8 years and never bought a single textbook.

Sorry, I repressed pretty much all my memories of first year biology. To this day I don't know why I took the subject.

Really? Not even out of interest? I've picked up a few although admittedly not all out of interest *cough* Advanced Engineering Mathematics *cough*

Unless they're really obscure, you should be able to find PDFs on google.

Luckily mine have never been too obscure, so I just went into the campus book shop, scanned the barcodes and ordered on Amazon. Saved a small fortune.

Nope. I did start reading more about psycholinguistics after we did a couple of weeks on that in my experimental psychology course, but never wanted to keep any of the actual set texts from any of my courses.

I had my tutor review for the second term yesterday - I was expecting it to go okay but not great, but surprisingly he was really enthusiastic and reckoned I could get a first with distinction in my preliminary exams with some effort. Internally my jaw hit the floor (but I think I kept a reasonable poker face!). I had never imagined I would do better than a mid 2:1 so it's a massive confidence boost. It's an odd feeling though as I'm not sure I've done anything to deserve such a kind assessment!
