It sickens me that nobody has mentioned ICEnhancer for GTAIV. Behold the "next gen" today:

The best looking game currently available IMO is probably GTA4 w/ iCEnhancer

and some of the other best games around for graphics imo
Crysis 1

edit: nice choice trelliz :D
edit edit: these would be the best from a purely technical level. Games like madness returns i think look superior to alot of these games just on an artistic level

Witcher 2  such a gorgeous game. I could spend hours in and around Flotsam alone - a wonderfully realised slice of beautiful but grotty fantasy real estate.

Witcher 2 is just Polygons though. One of my favourite visual effects in a recent game is the glaring Mechonis in Xenoblade. The game takes place across two gigantic titans frozen mid fight, your heroes born from one and your enemies the other. Looking up and seeing the source of all your trouble, glaring at you with those dead, frozen red eyes always fills you with an unshakeable fear of what comes from there, and the possibility that it's not dead, just waiting.

Mario Galaxy running on Dolphin is blummin' sumptuous:

Also, I'm still of the opinion the Skyward's Impressionist distance effect is lovely (again, from emulation. I'm not cheating. Shurrup.):

Honestly, once you see GTA 4 with ice, theres no going back. Its on a whole other level to what consoles can do.

Regarding artistic design rather than sheer graphics horsepower, I have to mention stuff like Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages (both ironically from the same company), both of which have a very interesting artistic style:

The videos I have seen of GTA4 with ICE are amazing. If anything convinces me to replace my stone age PC, it will be that.

Its worth it! I know PC gamers like to joke about being the master race and all but it really is next gen stuff, today. When you compare vanilla GTA 4 to it its honestly hard to believe theyre the same game.

few more icenhancer shots. sure why not

Those icehancer shots look amazing, but the problem I have with them is that they appear to arbitrarily use artefacts from the real world and not the carefully constructed satirical world of GTA.

Or in other words: Burger Shot > Burger King.

As far as Im aware, thats just a hi-res texture pack that Brer chose. There is more than one out there so you can get whatever suits you, be that realism or just upscaled originals.

Its the viva new york mod, which replaces alot of signs and shops with the real world equivalent (also makes the taxis and cop cars proper NYC taxis/cop cars). It just adds to the realism factor of icenhancer, i couldnt go back to vanilla now!

I agree with keeping the satirical world of GTA4 intact, so probably wouldn't go for the real-world stuff if I got it. In other news, I believe there is a new Gentlemen of the Row mod coming for SR3, called Gentlemen of Steelport. Will keep an eye out.

How is it I've never heard of Zeno Clash before? I am truly very surprised by this!

As for GTA ICE, I would like to know more about it. Can you use it and simply enhance the original game, not replacing any thing with real world or alternative textures? What are the recommended system specs for it? In theory, (not that I have any plans to do this) buuuuuuuut would it work on a cracked version of the game? I ask because the standard version of GTA 4 is a bit slow due to the crappy DRM gooseberry fool.
