I'm having real problems with my internet connection at the minute. Normally I'd put it down to BT throttling my connection but I've not been downloading during peak hours, in fact, I've hardly downloaded anything this month so they've no reason to do that.

EDIT - Just managed to actually log in after a million attempts. BT are such a strawberry floating bunch of banana splits. I'd love to fire bomb them.

I get that on my uni internet a lot, might be worth looking at what ports you have blocked as the uni leaves literally just the bare necessities open

How would I go about doing that? I have literally no idea.

That's the best way to describe it, "grinding to a halt". It's like it just gives up trying. I can't sign in to any services at all now; Steam, MSN, Xbox Live, the 3DS eshop, anything like that. They all just stick on their sign in screens for up to 20 minutes before timing out or failing altogether. Web pages load incredibly slow too, I attempted to load a "post a reply" to a topic here earlier and after 20 minutes I just gave up. Some sites seem to load, although extremely slowly, too slow to just be a dip in connection speeds. But others refuse to load at all and just stick on a white screen with the rotating green circle in the tab header, like Facebook or Hotmail. Sometimes F5ing gets a page to load but it's not a definite solution.

I've been searching around, when pages actually load, and I've heard mentions of firewalls, ports and all sorts of things but I don't really know what I'm doing. I feel sure that this is something fixable and not just BT taking the piss. I've tried going into my router through Firefox and playing with the settings in there, setting it up again and what not but again, I'm not 100% sure I know what I'm doing. Just trying gooseberry fool.

Today it's even worse, and even the forum, which was managed to limp along, is next to dead today. And obviously with GGGC on going, I'm shitting my pants it'll cause a problem with me being able to compete and I need to get this sorted asap.

So with regards to Irene's suggestion above? Is he on to something? How would I even go about checking that stuff and what would I need to do if there was a problem there?

Or does anyone else have any other suggestions? Please, I really, really need some help with this. It's causing me so much heart ache at the minute and I'm at the end of my tether. Really. :(

Another example of the pain I'm feeling... I tried to save a picture, either a jpg or png, and it was downloading at 9kbps. After about 20 minutes, it looked like it was still downloading (it was about 15% done) but you could tell it had just died. It was like the little man in the internet, carrying the data back and forth, had lost both of his legs and then his arms and was still valiantly trying to wriggle across the floor to complete his task but was getting nowhere.

Okay, bizarre. It's been like this for days now but I've just come home and just like that, the internet is perfect again. Working super fine and quick as normal. I'm so thankful to the internet Gods but still, anyone have any ideas what the problem is as this has happened before?

My mate was having trouble with BT Internet yesterday. I'm pretty sure it was a problem on their end.

It's not BT's fault.

It is BTs fault. I'm on BT and I'm having massive issues today. I know it's definately not a problem on my end as I bought 5 external hard drives with toast just in case.

Maintenence I would presume.

Thanks all. Hope the GGGC flash games are loading okay for you StayDead. I know if mine wasn't back to normal, as it is now, I wouldn't have stood a hope in hell of competing in this task.

I have a random question to add to here. Is there any way of checking whether BT are doing maintenence in my area?

Apparently BT Infinity will become avaliable on the 31st of March, but my internet randomly just a second ago started strawberry floating around again.
