Uncharted.

Unfortunately, they've put out a substandard game on Vita by the looks of it. When will companies learn that a great franchise put into the hands of a second tier developer doesn't automatically mean a great game.

They've also got Wipeout, which granted isn't the powerhouse it was in PS1 days, but I still think if they handled the marketing of that game better they could make it that game.

I remember reading Uncharted 3 had sold 3.8 million units its first day or something like that. I think the first two have done over 4 million each.

EDIT - End of last year in an interview someone at Sony marketing said Uncharted as a franchise had sold over 13 million units.

So yeah, its a pretty big seller.

Uncharted.

Not a mass appeal IP like Mario, Mario Kart or Monster Hunter etc. Plus it's not even Naughty Dog developing it, Sony have done what they do with most handheld spin-offs and farmed it out to another studio.

Sony's first party situation dire, especially looking at the upcoming Vita line up when compared to the 3DS. That's the main reason I have zero interest in it.

Almost like I already said that in the bit you cut.

No one has a first party to match Nintendo, they've just been at it the longest and rely on it the most. I don't think that means Sony's first party is 'dire', its pretty hard to argue it doesn't have a better first party launch lineup for Vita launch than Nintendo did at 3DS launch.

And Uncharted clearly does have mass appeal, you don't make a franchise that sells over 10 million copies without mass appeal.

But what else is announced for Vita? It's got one of the most unappealing software line ups I've ever seen for a console. Before the 3DS even launched we knew about Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Kit Icarus etc.

They don't have to announce games that aren't coming for over a year, they've got them at launch. Thats the point.

H, they don't really though do they, when you consider we are talking about mass appeal.

They need Little Big Planet on Vita as soon as.

He was talking about games they announced before launch and are upcoming like Paper Mario, Luigis Mansion and Kid Icarus. Those don't have the mass appeal you are talking about any more than stuff like Wipeout and Everbodys Golf, which are Vita launch titles.

You're right on those. Agree.

But, my reply was to your comment that they don't have to announce games coming a year down the line because they are already covered. I'm saying they aren't by any means. None of the games at launch are mass appeal games and won't shift massive hardware. That's not to say they aren't good games and all that, just that Sony need to shift hardware so that they establish a 3rd party support base - they can't guarantee that like they used to in the PS2 era anymore.

Nintendo made that mistake with 3DS, they need the hardware to sell to get support down the line, and they didn't do that early enough, so it was only end of last year when hardware started to fly. Nintendo were damn lucky that PSV wasn't out to compete at the time. PSV won't have that luck because 3DS is now established and selling along side it.

Once again it comes down to personal preference and what types of game you enjoy more. For me, the Vita will probably have a more appealing library of games. Exactly the same as the PSP and DS situation.

They have already announced COD, Bioshock, Assassins Creed, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Mortal Kombat. Nintendo do it all the time, going back to the same old series. Mario Kart, Mario, Starfox, Zelda etc. Not saying it's a bad strategy just pisses me off when any other company other than Nintendo do it they get gooseberry fool on.

Nothing wrong with them sticking sicking with franchises that have been consistently good over the years and are proven million sellers. Have to question you including COD and Assassin's Creed on that list when you only need to look at the amount of games belonging to those franchises that have come out over the years. A new COD and Assassin's Creed game pretty much every year for the past five or six years. While it doesn't "piss me off", double standards like these annoy me.

I included them on my list because you asked what future games have been announced for the Vita. :?

I don't particularly like seeing them at the top of the charts every year either but from a business point of view you can understand why there releasing them.

We've never seen a full featured AAA version of those games in portable form before, which is the difference I think.

I appear to have picked up another two on my way back to my hotel in Maidenhead, including one from Tokyo, my first non-uk hit.

And we've seen nothing whatsoever of them yet other than a logo.
