Tempted to order one myself but with a backlog already and other games due out around then I'll probably never get around to playing it. Saying that though I've just ordered it.

It never got a Euro release, and the North America print was a limited run, I believe. Might be an idea to snap it up.

My thinking on the matter is that if I don't like it, or even get around to starting it (such is my backlog), I can probably sell it on for £30 anyway.

Knowing my luck, they'll announce a PAL release as soon as it ships. It's only £27 including postage though, so that's less than the RRP for a DS game over here.

I've been playing the PS1 fan translation of Tales of Phantasia. It's amazing, this version really seems to do the game justice, the characters feel so much more alive than they did in the GBA port and it's great seeing all the Symphonia connections in the world. Also, I love how they've gone to the trouble of voicing the sex dream lines on the boat despite everything else in that scene being silent and there being only a handful of story dialogue voiced so far. Like Namco decided to make that a serious priority.

Sold mine for £40. 8-)

How are you managing to play that? PSP rom? If you are, I may have to look into it for....research purposes. :shifty:

Also Suzz, the EU version of Arc the Lad is a myth. Although it does remind that I gave up on the PS2 game right before the final battle.

Anyone here played Resonance of Fate? I find myself in an RPG mood (hence why I've recently bought Valkyria Chronicles and ordered Radiant Historia) and am curious about this game. Reviews paint it as a wholly unique and demanding battle system wrapped up in a mediocre story (aren't they always?) but was wondering if anyone here has experience with it. Worth a punt?

Pros:
It looks and sounds good
Characters are voiced fairly decently
Interesting battle system

Cons
Plot is reather sketchy and takes the back seat zometimes
Battle system is a bit of a struggle to start but eventually becomes samey after a while
Dungeons are a bit of a slog by the end.

Overall I enjoyed it but it could have done with a lot more. Seeing something likes this happening on screen is still fun though:

Think in most places it can be found for 10-12 quid so worth a punt basically.

Edit: Thinking about it, the battle system is a bit like FF13's - Handguns are your COMs and Machine Guns are your RAVs which build up scratch/stagger damage.

The lackluster plot worries me, playing through the Kingdom Hearts games and a couple other older titles were made increasingly frustrating due to naff storytelling. However, if it takes a backseat then that could negate that issue, my general problem was that in the aforementioned titles the poor narrative is unnecessarily dragged out, too prominent.

I am obviously looking into more of the Tales games having greatly enjoyed Abyss so far - what are the differences between the PS1 and GBA version? I might try and *acquire* one to play on my PSP.

Is Dawn of the New World still available freely or is it quite rare like Symphonia?

If you are on Lovefilm then try putting it on your rental list. I got it quite quickly from there recently.

The storytelling isn't really naff per-se, it's more that there isn't enough of it. You'll occasionally be doing something which seems vitally important to the plot but you're not entirely sure why you're doing it.

Point in case; one of the central motivations for the main "evil lead" as it were, is only explained through an animated movie that plays before the title screen and nowhere else. Which is fine perhaps, except, it's one of 3 possible movies it plays. So unless you sit there and watch them all play, you'd completely miss out on it.

It was one of my biggest gripes I think when I finished it because when you actually got the little snippets of plot, it was actually really interesting.

For a lot of people though, the combat and some of the challenges in the story and non-story missions was enough to make the game very worthwhile to play. Once again; a bit like FF13 in that respect.

It's been up on EU PSN for about month.

Resonance of Fate is good, but the plot is gooseberry fool and some of the difficulty spikes are outrageous.

Ah crap, Phantasia is up on the PSN? Another one to download. What makes the fan translation better than the original? What makes it better than the GBA port?

Also, what other Rags are worth getting from the EU/US stores? Probably biting off more than I can chew now, mind...

I was on about the superior Arc The Lad.

Aye, downloaded the PS1 version and playing it on the PSP with CFW.

Parksey, the GBA port is a strange hybrid of the SNES/PS1 versions but with a shockingly poor translation (I don't think it was handled by the same team who do the usually stellar Tales localisations). PS1 version has much more content and the fan translation is excellent.
