Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater HD.

Dammit nostalgia kicking in again, easily one of my favourite games of all time, perhaps even more close to my heart than the original Metal Gear Solid.

At first MGS3 may well seem a damn sight tougher than previous games, what with no soliton radar to fall back on, and smarter enemy AI. The bosses too are for the most part a slight step above what you faced in MGS2. The Russian forests are also just so damn immersing, you can literally spend hours choosing the right camouflage, and then waiting in a bush for a passing guard or snake to chow down on.

The storyline for the most part seems a little bit more grounded than Sons of Liberty, focusing more on Cold war paranoia and the like, a suitably realistic backdrop for a sneaking mission behind enemy lines. Of course it still manages to have a fair amount of OTT bits, mostly involving Colonel Volgin and the hilariously named "Shagohod" but c'mon, it's the fifth game in the series, if you still think it is going to be completely straight faced you are only fooling yourself.

Oh and dat ending. :(

You feel just as disenchanted as Big Boss, having literally his whole life seemingly unravel before his eyes, losing The Boss, being screwed over by Eva, and then finding out that The Boss had to die, all for the sake of a cover up and the legacy. All for the sake of money in the end.

The final salute still brings a lump to the throat, capped off by Starsailor of all things.

*salutes*

9/10

couldn't agree more just finished it

10/10 the story is the best of the lot, the end battle is still one of the best battles in any game, the ending is perfect

I sang along to starsailor

oh and like a boss 8-)

Tales of the Abyss (3DS) - 8/10

Vesperia remains better, but what it does is pretty awesome. It also has fastest start of JRPG ever, instead of long ass intro, it just throws you into action after less than half hour and tells you to have fun. The cast is ace, story's good. The problem is that locations doesn't seem feel decent, and do seem have alot of backtracking (thank god for quick travel). I just seem like pacing of Vesperia more. And lack of subtitles in FMVs :fp:

Still damn good game, though.

Crash Time 3 - 6/10

Hilariously poor voice acting, laughable story and some reasonablly decent driving mechanics, but so damn charming. Easy to see why the series has attained cult status. Plus easy achieves, natch. :P

Uncharted 3- really don't get why some people have an issue with it. It follows the exact same path of number 2, in terms of storyline, variety of locations, gameplay, voice acting, and stunning visuals. Hell, the hand to hand fighting is better in this one, the animation of the characters is fantastic, and theres no annoying last level boss to get frustrated by. Plus the multiplayer is a big leap. Only thing that bugged me was there were a few sections mid to late game which were too like Uncharted, in that there was wave after wave after wave of enemies, which got annoying. On the whole though, there was innovation in this sequel, more than can be said for other series which seem to get universal love no matter what.

In that case, it gets the same as 2, a 9.5.

Resident Evil 4 on Professional. 9/10, I've completed this game a fair few times over the years but never managed it on Pro until now. I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself right now as I've conquered one of my gaming demons.

The Simpsons Arcade - 7/10

I could easily give it 6 if it wasn't fact that it's The Simpsons, that and online co-op. I may be biased as I love co-op games like these along classic The Simpsons. The problem is, it does age pretty bad, I'd say even Streets of Rage 1 is still very playable, more so than this game. Having said that though, I'm having alot of fun with it so far with mate. Hoping to get more for four-play co-op games. If it wasn't for co-op I'd be ranting due to 800ms I paid for, but co-op makes that worth it.

TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled - 6/10

For some reason I'm not having *that* fun as I did with The Simpsons, which is pretty much same game. Think it's case of dull bosses, awful stage 3 and I really, really dislike graphics used. Tacky. Ah well, had fun with it, and at least it's finished. (Bought it when it was on deal ages ago but never really bothered to play it... until my mate asked me if I want to co-op on that too after Simpsons Arcade)

Resident Evil 4 HD - Replaying this really made Resi 5 look like gooseberry fool. So many great moments, Set pieces and bosses. Still looks fantastic and has an excellent soundtrack. I really love the end credits....its really sinister seeing the plagas turn an innocent rural community into monsters :(

I really wanted to like this, something new and original and it looks good with old school boss fights. The sword play is alright, the gun play is generic.

The original dismemberment concept is what makes this game so frustrating. On the later levels you spend more time 'pulling yourself' together than doing what you should. Throw in regenerating enemies and bosses and the game had me on the verge of throwing the pad away, the final boss(es) especially.

The levelling system doesn't really add anything to the game and although you could continually switch them based on scenario, it stops the action and makes minimal difference.

I hope they make a sequel, keep the concept but refine the mechanics.

You nearly convinced me to buy it then, as Im bored and need something to play, then I saw the price £14.99 :| and remembered that leon was in it. :shifty: But the game is almost worth it for those end credits

The only problem i had with RE4 is that it really doesnt feel like a Resi game (therefore doesnt really deserve to be called resident evil, its more like a spin off of classic resi) and that it goes on way too long. The island level is really unnecessary. But yeah, classic game.

Actually yeah, the castle is a real drag mainly because it comes directly after the absolutely strawberry floating mindblowing village section and cant possibly hope to top that.

Silent Hill (PS1)
Ran through in about 4 and a half hours, one sitting with a friend. It's been so long since I last played through it and I forgot just how fantastic it really is, with most horror games to this day owing an awful lot to Team Silent's particular brand of horror. SH2 is easily the better game for obvious reasons (it's also the greatest horror game ever made) but Harry Mason's story started it all.

Only knocked a point off for some hilariously bad writing, which could possibly be down to bad translation at the time.

Yeah, the castle is a touch too long, I think. On easy mode, bits of it are cut out which streamlines it a little.

Just only one, and that's maze thing. But yeah castle is pretty weakest point of RE4.
