So you think people seeing a group they think will make a good game in a genre they like and paying them in advance rather than at the point of sale is hippy gooseberry fool?

Plus he had his wedge ages ago, so these strawberry floating retards piling more money on top arent going to make it a better game. Theyre just making some fat guy richer.

So you'd never give anyone money if they got together a good group and said they would make a new version of a classic game you like then?

3DS #: needs accounts
They should sack all this in and just stick it on Origin, complete with always-on DRM and day one DLC.

And hats.

Don't forget the £15 a month subscription and super awesome £250 special edition with a massive statue and access to a super secret website.

I don't get how anyone could think this is a bad idea.

1) There is someone with a proven track record for making mostly good games, but due to Hollywoodisation of the games industry and perceived niche appeal of adventure games he is unable to find a publisher for what could be a good idea for another good game. If this someone can use Kickstarter to be financed directly by the public isn't it kind of up to them what they spend their money on?

2) So what if they've surpassed their budget, they haven't started designing the game yet so it doesn't take a genius to re-route cashflow into different aspects of the game. Better soundtracks and voice acting

3) All this talk of piracy is missing the point - that will happen anyway! It's like turning up at a PTA meeting and saying "paedophilia is bad!" Well strawberry float me :fp:

Is it that hard to get publishers oboard for projects on such low budget? If I were a big publisher I would be more than happy to throw a million or so at projects like this because even if most fail the ones that succeed would generate huge returns due to the low initial investment, plus you'd be able to negotiate rights to sequels if anything was success and good end up with several best selling franchises.

I'd pay £50 for Baldur's Gate 3 it it stuck with the same graphical and gameplay style.

Unfortunately publishers see success only in terms of money and quality games don't always translate to big bucks. Psychonauts famously won a fuckton of awards but bombed in terms of sales.

Psychonauts was not a small budget game though, about $15 million at the time, which was not huge blockbuser funding but still significantly more than whatever the budget of this will end up at. You can afford to fund a lot of small downloadable games for a million or two and take a gamble that you will get a big pay out on some of them.
