The cyclists on the other hand don't even slow down and just try to weave their way through the crowds.

I once spent a couple hours between connecting flights in Singapore. Everyone told me how strict the laws are there, and that I should never for any reason attempt jay-walking, and the first thing I saw people doing on the first street I walked was jay-walking. WTF.

Why doesn't London have any public seating along major tourist spots like Oxford Street?

Because it would be a disaster. It's a busy shopping street, no room for dilly dallying

My feet and legs and back were killing me and I could sit anywhere because the only places with seats were restaurants that'd expect you to eat there if you're going to sit on their chairs! strawberry floating ridiculous.

Also, Londoners, why don't you ever use the buttons on pedestrian crossings?

The Tottenham Court Road end of Oxford Street has slightly narrower pavements, so it doesn't have space for benches. There is a bench on Tottenham Court Road though. On the Bond Street side of Oxford Street the pavements jut out a bit to accommodate seating for pedestrians. So the answer to why Oxford Street has no public seating is because you didn't look hard enough.

Not following the Green Cross Code is not a problem solely seen in London. However, if you saw this phenomenon during your grim death march through the West End it's entirely possible that a large proportion of the people flouting our traffic regulations were in fact tourists, so blaming Londoners for that is a bit unfair.

Well there needs to be more of it to accommodate more shopping-tired legs and feet. I shouldn't have to look hard, it's the capital city of our country for crying out loud, I expect better.

Must be all those dusky foreigners taking all the seats away from us British folk ;)

Or the fact that the amount of seating was pitiful for the tourist-rich capital of a country such as ours.

If there's enough room for Scientologists to set up and lure in the gullible and the weak-minded, there's enough room for benches.

There's plenty of room. Kings Cross Station certainly has no excuse for not setting up more benches inside and out (where there's strawberry floating masses of room). It's not like they take up much space. Just plonk 'em down next to the road facing t'other way and you're fine.

Do some bloody exercises then!!!

On a serious note though,

Benches cause people to be corralled into certain areas which then become REALLY congested and two, homeless people LOVE benches.
