The 2 Forerunner books are great, little slow in places especially Primordium, but damn

Iv only read The Fall Of Reach out of those books so far, trying to do them in some sorta order (cryptum, primordium, harvest, cole protocol, reach, flood, first strike, onyx, glasslands)

id have a guess that you could pretty much forget cole protocol and wouldnt really miss that much, but Harvest is the story of 1st contact with the Covenant, so its a must read i reckon, plus its Johnsons story :)

Halseys journal? Is that the one that mentions miranda being her daughter and whatnot? Can I buy that?

343 discuss Master Chief's armour

Quote:
When we all saw the teaser for Halo 4, our first question was: "What is up with that armor?" Last time we checked, he didn't have a jetpack. Could Master Chief actually be Barry Steakfries?

Nope, it's all part of 343 Industries' plan to update the Master Chief's armor for Halo 4. A blog post on Halo Waypoint discusses the "800 pounds of tank and jet fighter" strapped to Chief's frame. "So we pulled that design into the armor and HUD. When you play Halo 4, it's important you understand that you're more than just a gun on the screen. To give you that feeling, we have represented that weight with player physics, without interrupting crosshair and shooting accuracy."

Despite Chief's bulk, 343 describes him in Halo 4 as "a nimble yet heavy superhero." His design will contrast against the bulky Spartan armor design seen in Bungie's last effort, Halo: Reach. "When we first looked at the Chief's armor, we studied what was done in Reach. We knew he needed to be understood as a nimble yet heavy superhero, and contrast that with Reach armor design that was more on the bulky side. Our goal is to hit that sweet spot where we represent what is fictionally true about the Chief while making sure you feel like you're a super-powerful human being when you're playing him."

In short, 343 is aiming to better convey his physical weight to the players -- and it sounds like his movement and characteristics will reflect that.

So where's he suddenly picked up this new armour, seeing as he's been floating around in stasis since Halo 3?

You mean within his suit, he already had a newer suit underneath? Sounds like a complete asspull to me.

Yeah within it, it may have been there all the time..Im grasping at straws though, in all the books he has never had a jetpack

It's BS! The Standard mkII armour is all the same.

If by some story strand you could choose between mkII and III armour, to approach the game differently, that would make more sense. Even if on onyx he finds new tech, he could use it. But to start the game with new armour is daft. There needs to be continuity, but accept they want to start a fresh for a new trilogy.

I've just read 'ghosts of onyx' it's good. I Want to know more about the forerunners and reclaimers now.

OR HAS HE?

Anyway I don't understand the 'outrage'. Who cares, it makes the game better to have some nice new features. It doesn't exactly change the entirety of Halo 'lore' as we know it for him to have upgraded his armour.

Could have a quick training mode where you find out he gets the new armour as a result, maybe it was on board that ship he was on, but he didnt know it.... :shifty:

Easily fixed with Cortana saying "Chief, I may have something to help you, its not been fully tested yet but...."

Sounds interesting what they're they're hoping to do with conveying Chief's weight and whatnot with the physics...but I think they need a pretty explanation for how he get his jetpack and armour change (apparently it'll play a big part of the story). Although a lot of people probably won't care, what 343 don't wanna do is 'upset' the hardcore Halo fans right at the get go.

Nanobots implemented the upgrades during stasis.

Jetpacks aren't exclusive to Spartans, they're used by Marines in Reach and mentioned several times in the books as a means to move around in zero-G, there would definitely have been some aboard the The Dawn at the end of Halo 3.

As for the other changes to the armour.. well.. how're they gonna sell a new range of action figures if they look exactly the same as the old ones? :shifty:

The armour changed between Halo 2 and 3 and was never explained, I don't think it's worth getting hung up on. (Obviously some people will say it's game breaking and that they'll never buy another Microsoft product until they patch in the correct armour, but those people are MENTAL.)

Personally I'd like the jetpack to be a permanent feature of the suit, do away with Armour Abilities and just have jetpack and sprint as ever presents.
