Thanks and Goodluck to you too!

Telephone interviews are okay. Usually the interviewer is someone from HR rather than a manager so its a bit more relaxing. Plus they are contently typing everything you say so it gives you time to speak a bit slower and take time to think.

My next telephone interview is in early February for a job that I THINK I really really want. will have to start preparing for that soon.

Me too. They're so impersonal, and you can't see the body language of the person interviewing you.

I hate interviews of any sort to be honest, I'm too nervous for my own good, once the ice has been broken, I'm not too bad, but the run up is unbearable for me.

Update: I failed both assessment centres :(
Will b getting feedback from one of them (RBS) next week.
Luckily they gave me travel expenses for both :)

I think I fail at group discussions as im not usually talkative. But will wait until I get my feedback to see how I actually did.

Did you actually do a presentation on why you bought a Walkman?

Never had one. I suffer from anxiety but I don't struggle to talk very articulately on a subject I'm confident in so I don't think id have much trouble if the job is right.

In any presentation scenario confidence and professionalism are most important. Previous stage experience helps.

For a previous job we spent about 25 mins talking about me & the job, then we spent about 50 mins talking about videogames. Best interview I ever had

At least you are getting interviews, I would love them at the moment. No one is interested in me. I'm a graduate with decent computer literacy yet even when I apply to posts far beneath my level of ability I get rejected from the off. Probably going to still be living at home by the time I'm thirty at this rate.

Sorry for venting.

Me too mate. Thing is, lots of people are still/have been out of work from the recession, so there is no entry level anymore. People with years' worth of experience are snapping up the jobs that should have been for us. As for grad schemes, I find a lot of them to be a bit of a joke, usually because of their 'you must be able to work anywhere in the country' clause. I admit I'm not a strong enough person to just go somewhere for a job without knowing about the place and what it's like first, but I don't see why this should hurt my chances as I still look in a lot of areas.

Ho hum. Also sorry for mini rant.

The best graduate schemes are the ones that still care about your A level results ("more than 320 UCAS points"), and need you to know another language.

And have those ridiculous questionnaire style application forms where you have to manually insert into separate boxes on separate pages everything you've written your CV to cover.

Don't even know why you need to know more than one language, as every French or German engineer I've encountered (while in actual work!) has known English anyway.

At least you're a graduate, I dropped out of my Computer Science degree in year 2. :fp:
I've since done the COMPTIA A+ so that my CV doesn't look completely terrible, but i'm struggling to get interviews for even entry level IT support jobs, and I was already doing that before I even went to university.

Mainly due to health reasons, but lots of other things happened that year which made it almost impossible to keep up with uni work. When I failed my exams I didn't tell the university about the reasons why, and I just assumed that I'd be able to work hard over summer and pass the September resits, but then the university didn't even offer me resits and instead wanted me to redo the whole year, which I didn't fancy.

Just got some feedback on my assessment day
Found out that I lacked "detail" when answering competency questions which also fell into my report writing and role play (weakest) tests. Thinking back it seems obvious. A lot of things I do lack detail, I always just act quickly without thinking too much before realizing later on if I had did this or that etc it could have been better.

I guess it just takes practice to always think in detail or is it I have a low IQ and too simple minded? lol

Another weak point was my group meeting which I know I failed it. There was this one person in the group who was really loud and talked over us and I couldn't speak above him. Anyway I know I can't blame it on that.

And i failed a maths test. It wasn't a normal maths test though like the usual numerical ones. It was one where they give you new rules which you had to use to calculate things you have never heard of. Probably a more effective testing method as it tests how well an individual can absorb information.

Overall very good feedback and I can start working to improve upon them. Most companies never give feedback so I am glad i got some feedback finally.

(one thing that is confusing me. The person on the phone said that they hope to see me again soon?!? wtf i failed your assessment?)

I can't believe I use to think that by doing a difficult degree at a good uni would make it easy for me to get a job :fp: btw I don't see my degree as something worthless because its not getting me a job yet. I see it as something I did well in and I am proud of myself for achieving it and on the side it will help me get a good job in the future (hopefully).

Well I better get prepping for my telephone interview on Tuesday now. Its with PWC and I am nervous as they tend to want candidates to have a lot of commercial awareness plus it is the THIRD time that I have applied and the first time I have made it past their online tests.
