Nice. I wish I could've seen a hockey game in Canada, but both times I've been, it was out of season.

Same - when I went to Montreal it was the off-season too :(

I've seen several NHL games in the US & Canada. I even saw the NHL season première in London at the O2, that was surreal seeing the NHL on my doorstep.

I wish the NHL would come back here instead of always buggering off to Scandinavia!

Really? Oh. :(

I like hockey, but I'm not a very big fan of the NHL, or watching pretty much any sport really, I always prefer to play. Although when the Olympics roll around I always watch those games because I think they play a lot better. I'm sure most will disagree but I really don't think violence has a place in the game, I mean a games rules should be generally universal, if you wouldn't let a team made up of 6 year olds punch each other in the head why is it ok for grown men to do it.

Anyways more news on concussions, Sidney Crosby is now out again due to "concussion like symptoms".

To be honest the fighting has always baffled me. I've asked some people on hockey forums and such and it seems it's "just part of the culture of the game". I find it really odd. Don't think it adds anything to the sport and seems out of place to me.

Is hockey on 'normal' TV over there Wiggles? Or do you have to pay for cable, etc...seemed to be on TV all the time when I was over there (Stanley Cup finals were on) but in a hotel I was probably getting all sorts of channels.

3-2 Hurricanes :fp:

I can watch any game that's on CBC (which is Canada's version of BBC) as it's all free. But they don't show all the games so i'm watching a stream tonight. But the Toronto game on Saturday is on tv. I think most places have whatever the channel every game is on though. Even pizza places show it so it's pretty handy buying a slice of pizza for a dollar and watching a period on a widescreen.

What Stanley Cup games were you over for?

EDIT 3-3 Burrows

4-3 :x

It was 2009, when the Penguins won it. Caught bits of some of the games, but I was mainly out doing touristy stuff during them. Loved going to a bar/restaurant and it being on TV though. strawberry floating wish we could get it on TV here. :x :x

There must have been a great buzz around the city, apparently last year it was amazing (well up until game 7 of course). Really hope they make it far this time, i'm already thinking about starting to save money knowing how much it would cost me to go out every second night. :fp:

Would you ever come back here? I could show you all the best places on East Hastings ;)

Re: saving up. Do eet.

I'd love to go back. Possibly my favourite city I've visited.

I met a hot singer from Vancouver when she was over here (nobody well-known) who said she'd give me a guided tour next time I was over. 8-)
Wouldn't mind seeing the sights of East Hastings though - looked dodgy as strawberry float when I was there, need someone to guide me through it. ;)

Wiggles should run a tour-guide system for GRCaders visiting Canada/Vancouver.

I'm harbouring hopes that one day I'll learn how to save and visit Montreal.

Well seems like the Montreal Canadiens have fired their head coach...

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/sto ... fired.html

Quote:
Jacques Martin has paid the price for the Montreal Canadiens' poor start.

The Canadiens fired their head coach, announcing assistant Randy Cunneyworth will be the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Larry Carriere will become an assistant coach.

The Canadiens (13-12-7) are last in the Northeast Division and 11th in the East.

A news conference with Cunneyworth and Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier is scheduled for noon today at the Bell Centre.

Also just a reminder, to anyone who's interested, I made a bunch of NHL avatars a while ago, they're in the avatar thread in creative corner...

Great Canucks game earlier, beat the Leafs 5-3. I just wish they'd start showing up for the lesser games.
