I never realised that VF2 looked that good in the arcade and I never realised how gooseberry fool tekken 2 looked next to it. Makes me wonder why sega were intent on pushing 2D graphics on the saturn, were they really convinved that 3D was a fad that would die out?
:fp: SEGA.

Actually, they just weren't ready for 3D. The hardware they were using for their arcade machines was way too expensive to bring into the home that generation, so the Saturn was designed to be a top flight 2D console originally.

Then Sony blindsided them with the PS1, and they were forced to re-engineer the DC with 3D capabilities, but since it was tacked on after the fact, it used several unusual and off-beat techniques to generate it's 3D... Playstation used hardware that was quite similar to PC hardware, which made the leap a lot easier, and suddenly the PS1 had a ready made library of PC titles that western developers could try to bring over, as well as an unprecedented large collection of eastern titles.

Actually, the Saturn version of VF2 was very, very close to the arcade. Resolution was the same, as was the framerate. Only difference was the Saturn version had 2d backgrounds (you couldn't really tell) and had background stuff omitted (Shun's bridge).

Nice idea, liked what I watched. Definitely on Team Sega with these :shifty:

I didn't know about that dead end in Daytona with the "Congratulations! You just lost your sponsors" poster at the end

SEGA doing a good job of an arcade conversion? Well, that's a shocker. :shifty:

Did you forget the glorious Christmas of 1995? When Sega gave Saturn owners the triple whammy of Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter 2 and Sega Rally.

One of the best Christmas' ever.

What I mean is, arcade conversions are basically what SEGA founded it's entire home-console business on.

Not to say that there weren't some poor efforts, but generally Sega made a good fist of it no matter what platform they were converting a game to.
