For me 3 immediately spring to mind

Athlete Kings (Sega Saturn) - Still own this and it was one of my most played multi-player games. Some great games with my brother and his mates. Same with Winter Heat too.

Sensible World of Soccer (Amiga)

World Cup Italia '90.

There were probably better football games, but I was 5 when I first played this, so didn't care. Used to love making the game end in a draw just so I could do the penalty shoot-outs.

Kept playing it for a good few years too.

A dubious nominee on my behalf, but I can't help but wax lyrical about Wave Race 64, which epitomises jet-ski sports games for me.

My abiding memory is undoubtedly the nautical music, chiefly the ditty that presaged a race and the configuration music. Totaka's score so eloquently describes, to me, the serenity of the beaches and fruit-juice coloured waters. I interpret from the music a potent feeling of the lapping waters and sea-side heat, given that much of the instrumentation seems to convey the sort of impression you get from sun rays and the like: the twinkles of light are expressed so well in the musical chimes.

Elsewhere, a feeling for the rumble of the vehicles is expressed well in the Machine Select music; and it's hard to forget the mystical pipes of Misty Lake.

Geoff Crammonds F1GP. Loved this game, despite never really watching F1. I think I got it as a free gift for subscribing to PC Zone. Ah, so much nostalgia in one thread - the game, the magazine and the free gift.

All amazing games. More I can't be bothered to find clips of are Pole Position and that motorbike game where you're basically a green smudge racing other blue/black smudges on the Spectrum. And of course, Super Tennis

ISS Pro 98 was only on PS, you're thinking of the inferior ISS 98.

ISS 2000 on the N64 was the best ISS game though. I've waxed lyrical about its wonderful, bafflingly insane RPG career mode far too many times on this forum.

Disclaimer: I have no idea if it has an equivalent on the PlayStation, and whether said equivalent has the career mode.

I really liked hockey games when I was a kid. Loved the occasional punch up and was always trying to start a fight rather than trying to score 8-) .Haven't played one for about 10yrs though.

Great call with this one. I can't believe how quickly the music came back to me after all these years, especially the between rounds jingle that merged seamlessly with the bell ringing for the next round.
