Vanguard is rubbish on the higher difficulties, since the class involves getting close and personal if you do not hug your cover in Insanity you will die very quickly. Personally I find that the Soldier and Infiltrator classes are the best, since both allow for precision aiming and better defensive abilities (either with increased armor or cloaking). Infiltrator was actually what I used to play through insanity.

Also, Soldier + Mattock Rifle + Warp Ammo = unstoppable. You can kill two or three enemies during the Adrenaline Rush without reloading even on high difficulty.

Hmm I might give that last class a go when I've finished this playthrough as a Vanguard.

Seriously though you just have to know how to play them. You use charge to move forward because it recharges your barrier and makes you invincible for a few seconds after you hit. You just find an enemy on their own, slam into them, shot gun them in the face and backpedal behind cover while you're invincible. Now you're close to the rest of the enemies and can shotgun them in the face.

Also getting advanced training Stasis helps a lot. Because it not only allows you to take one enemy out of action so they don't shoot at you, it allows you to gain ground and when they come out of stasis they collapse on the ground so they're completely vulnerable. And as I said. Team Cryo Ammo is hilarious. Just max out Cryo and Fire ammo. Equip your team with Cryo and yourself with fire you take down their armour and they freeze them so you can finish them off.

Also team members with drones like Tali that distract enemies so you can get in close are really useful. As well as Kasumi because she can knock out targets whil you stasis others letting you move in more easily.

With stats and stuff. I'm curious as to see all the different ones.
I tried this on another fourm and only one or two people posted.

I'll edit mine in soon.

My only fault with it is how the combat and mission structure is really linear. You get kettled through these beautifully designed areas, taking down wave after wave of enemy. The different weapons and abilities make the combat varied but there is only a finite number of combinations you can use to mix it up.

I keep thinking about the opening level to Deus Ex, and all the different methods you can use to get to your goal. The option to not fire your weapon once during a mission would be sweet - and could make getting Paragon status way more interesting.

I just went for the default one because the character creation thingy was gooseberry fool; all the character faces throughout both games look like they were drawn from the same handful of templates.

Just played Arrival again. Yeh that wasn't good. No choices at all :|

It's probably going to effect ME3 more than anything so far, but there was no way of altering the outcome. Worst DLC pack so far (from both ME and ME2)

Pinnacle Station says hello!

Making what happened in the DLC a choice wouldn't really have made sense anyway. Stopping the Reapers is pretty much Shepard's only goal in life, so if he suddenly decided to let them arrive for the sake of 300,000 Batarians (And I mean, c'mon, strawberry float the Batarians), it just would have seemed silly if you ask me. I actually quite liked how that was a forced decision.

You didn't exactly get a plethora of choices in the Shadow Broker DLC...

Did you? I can't remember.

Admittedly, that was only a sidequest of sorts rather than continuing the main story. Arrival was basically created to bridge the gap and put the pieces in place for ME3 - in other words, giving Shepard the reason to go to Earth - so I presume they thought it wouldn't be wise to for us to be able to put these pieces wherever we wanted.

Man, I played the Firewalker DLC for the first time.

It's gooseberry fool, isn't it? :|

Also went and visit the crash site of the original Normandy. :(

Mass Effect anime to release in 2012

Quote:
The movie’s being made in collaboration with BioWare, T.O. Entertainment and FUNimation.

Mass Effect series producer Casey Hudson will be executive producer alongside FUNimation president and CEO Gen Fukunaga, director of original entertainment Chris Moujaes, T.O Entertainment’s CEO Takeichi Honda and Yui Shibata.

“Over the last few years, we have revealed different pieces of the Mass Effect world through different media. Extending the story through an anime medium is another amazing opportunity for us,” said Hudson.

Dragging this topic back to life slightly, but the PS3 Genesis Interactive Comic has quietly been released on Xbox Live for 320 points, handy if you don't feel going through the first game.

I was looking for this topic.

I started playing through this last week. It's so strawberry floating awesome. Why didn't anyone tell me it was so good? For shame, GR.

Anyway, here's a list of everywhere I'm at:
I recruited everyone from all the dossiers and did all their loyalty missions, but I didn't earn Zaeed's trust, and I lost Miranda's when I got Jack's.

I know one of the conditions for everyone surviving the suicide mission is to have them all trust you, but I'm not sure how to gain back Miranda's, or get Zaeed's at all. Miranda has some conversation options locked out to patch things up with Jack (I've been going a 90/10 Paragon/Renegade path), but it seems I actually have to totally max out the stat to get them. Don't know if that'll actually get the loyalty back, though.

The Shadow Broker mission was the highlight of the game so far for me. I had no idea what I was setting in motion when I chose the conversation option to start it in Ilium. It's a shame nothing else in the main story has really matched that.

I've just reactivated Legion and am just at the start of their mission on the Heretic's ship. Strangely, I was told I by EDI that I had to shuttle to my next mission, but I flew there directly in the Normandy. :?

Oh, and I accidentally set up a sexual liason with Garrus. DO NOT WANT

Much left to it? I'm 35 hours in, and it feels like I'm nearing the endgame, but I'd like to make sure have it polished off before Friday for LA Noire.

You shouldn't have that much left. I am fairly sure that mine was around that time - between 35 and 40 hours - and that included all the Achievements (bar the Insanity one) and all the DLC. If you're on the Collector's Ship, then I think you have very little else to do except set the end-game bit in motion, if you've done all the loyalty stuff and sidequests. Be warned, as I think doing a "certain thing" means you can't go back after that point until you complete the game. You'll probably recognise that point-of-no-return bit when it comes.

You mention the Shadow Broker being the best bit... and it's not even in the main game. 360 owners had to wait to play it. It's probably the highlight though, I'd agree. The other DLC was quite disappointing in comparison.

As for the loyalty bit, I have no idea how you can regain their loyalty - though I think it is definitely possible - but you get around those "pick a side" arguments by being able to pick the middle-ground conversation option. I am not sure if they are governed by anything else but your Paragon/Renegade score. In the original ME you had a Charisma stat, or something similar, but I'm not sure that is still in ME2. Try and level up if you can and see if the conversation option becomes available.

Got a copy of this during the week, Argos went bananas and were offloading the PS3 version for a tenner.

I'm about ten hours in, and thoroughly enjoying it, but something weird has happened. I've plumped for Hardcore difficulty and went with Infiltrator (massive wuss, y'see) and realised that I take much greater enjoyment out of wandering the Normandy, chatting with crew members and flying around the galactic map. When it comes to landing places, I also enjoy wandering around, chatting with locals and getting stuck into the conversations. If I can I actively avoid all combat-based missions for as long as possible, as I don't find it as enthralling as the chatter. So yeah, I'd like a Space sim where the combat is done in a style similar to the recruiting assassins from Assassins Creed: Brotherhood; where I pick my squad out, survey various missions, send them out and then sit back and chill with some ice brandy.

I'm also doing a Paragon runthrough (I want to sweep up Trophies and I get the feeling Loyalty is thin on the ground if you go full Renegade). However, when I go through my Renegade playthrough would it be considered racist if I specifically made Shepard black? Because it's not intended, I just think that for a Renegade he should resemble Shaft as much as possible. :shifty:

My current Shepard is an ugly bastard, which is why he has to get to know his crew personally, they're not going to respect (or shag) him for his mangled features. Also he's called Susan.

Fun game.

Looks like the DLC for this is going on sale next week. Currently winning in the voting system on XBL.

Is Arrival worth it?
