I don't understand the dislike for season 2. Season 5 is easily the weakest as far as I'm concerned. Season 2 and its focus on the docks was a little disjarring after the first, but I thought it ended up as one of the best seasons. In 13 episodes it got me from absolutely despising Ziggy to loving him.

Edit: Not to say season 5 is bad at all. It's great TV. Just not up to the absurdly high standards of the first 4 seasons.

I bloody love S2 as well, second only to 4 for me.

Just started season 5, and I have to say my favourites so far have been 4 and 2 as well, although I can't remember s1 all that well. As an overall package it's absolutely incredible though, deserves every bit of praise it's gotten.

Also, I was wondering, what is everyone's favourite opening credits? Again 4 and 2 are the best for me, I was actually genuinely disappointed with season 5s though.

My favorite were S1 and S3. S2 was great after re-watching but at first It bored me senseless. Now I need to finish Season 5 even though I already know most spoilers

Yeah I can see my order changing upon a re-watch. Although I think one of the things that is generally agreed is that season 5 is the weakest. Were there any behind the scenes reasons for 5 being weaker than the rest?

Just finished episode 7. This season is great so far. Stringer is a real piece of work.

A Torrent of Thoughts

I think season 2 is by far the best. It's definitely not as instantly likeable though, it took me until my third watch through to really appreciate it.

It's hard to call it the worst season - its better than most other TV shows can ever hope to achieve, but I'd say that or 5 are the least outstanding. It just feels so crushing. The dockworkers are just trying to survive really. None of them are evil, just doing dishonest things to get by. And they get strawberry floated the hardest out of anyone.
