I've started cutting some titles (getting things monthly does make it easier to realise what you're not actually enjoying all that much).

So far I've dropped:

- Blue Beetle (I really wanted this to be good, but sadly simply rehashing the last volume badly isn't reason for me to stick around. The characters are nowhere near as rounded as they were previously and in all honestly the tale feels like its going nowhere new).

- Batgirl (Just struggling to be excited by this. I love the visual of Babs in the suit, but Simone's writing has left me cold on this title. Funny as her most recent run on BOP did the same. Starting to think I really only enjoy her work on Secret Six, which is a shame as she was a very cool person).

- Justice League (Still got 3 issues of this to read and have no enthusiasm whatsoever).

- Secret Avengers (Remender has come on the title & I think it's likely to be good, but I can trade wait. The excellent done in one issues Ellis was doing felt like must-pick-ups, but this feels less vital).

- Frankenstein (Like the idea more then the execution - may shill out and buy up till the end of Lemire's run).

- Captain America & Bucky (Gonna finish the current arc, but with Brubaker moving on, so am I. I don't need 3 Cap related titles a month).

On the bubble: X-Factor (having a long run of this is pretty much the only thing keeping this around and thats a terrible reason).

The Walking Dead Compendium Volume 1 arrived yesterday (via another shitty yodel delivery )

Read the first "chapter", really enjoyed it. Loved the differences between it and the tv show. Carl

Has a volume 2 even been announced yet? I'm guessing it would go from like 49 to about 95-99ish? Where is the comic upto atm?

Was just looking at Forbidden Planet and they've stopped doing the 2nd, 3rd and 4th issues.

New 52 one? Don't know - not heard anything all that positive (but I'm bias as I hate the new Harley costume).

The series with Waller written by John Ostrander is great.

I've been reading it and really enjoying it - then again I really like the cast they've got in it

Comics wot I done liked recently

Batman: The Black Mirror
Yes I'm incredibly late to this party. Yes it was amazing (in fact I'd but it up there in my top 3 Batman stories). Yes I want Francesco Francavilla to draw everything now. Masterful storytelling, not least because Snyder uses Gotham itself as the antagonist.

The Activity
Team based espionage book from the writer of Who Killed Jake Ellis? No brainer. This is how you do an ensemble, high octane book well.

Graveyard Of Empires
War/zombie comic mashup and with its Afghanistan setting there's a nice undercurrent of present day politics going on there too.

Green Wake
This is sadly ending with Issue #10. A beautiful, horrifying fever dream of a comic. Like Dark City meets Twin Peaks via Silent Hill. It's now free to read from Issue #1 on Keenspot. You all have no excuse not to read it.

Pigs
Another team based espionage book, this time from Ben McCool. The story follows a team of KGB sleeper agents sent from Cuba to infiltrate America. They are then mysteriously activated years later.

Prophet
Absolutely spellbinding art and storytelling. This is sci-fi, like Conan through a Moebius shaped lens.

Sacrifice
Aztec death cults, time travel and Joy Division. This is unlike any other comic on the stands. The distribution method for this book alone makes it worthy of note. Between this and the success of his other self-published book Our Love Is Real (since picked up by Image) it's not hard to see why Humphries has been tapped to take over Hickman on Ultimates.

I've found it pretty hard to get into The Walking Dead so far. I think I'm suffering from having seen the TV show first, as I'm finding it quite jarring in the way it doesn't dwell for long on many key events in the show and moves along at a much brisker pace. I'll be glad to get beyond the first season's story.

After initially struggling to get upto chapter 2 because most of it was a bit samey, i've now raced ahead to chapter 5 without realising it , it gets way better. It's far superior to the show because of it's quicker pace, the tv show is seriously bad with them stuck on the farm atm. I was thinking about giving up on the show because it's become such a bore-fest but I might stick with it just to see if they get to the prison.

Quick question, was walking dead the comic i remember reading about that had one really gruesome two pages panel of like someone getting ripped apart or something? Not very helpful i know but i think it was walking dead due to the black and white colour scheme.

Considering the ripping apart happens a fair bit I doubt that was the thing you were thinking of. However, depending on how far into the comic you are you have some very, and I mean very, brutal scenes coming up with some female characters, that's all I shall say.

So just finished the walking dead compendium volume one. Rather good eh? Alot more graphic than the tv show and some of the later stuff was an entertaining read. Even the "weird" or nothing characters were still miles more interesting than the characters in the tv show. Makes me wonder if i want to still bother with the tv show now. On the one hand, awesome stories for future series, but considering the mess the show has made of hershel's farm, it will probs mess up later story lines as well.

Dying to read the rest now, don't know whether to start collecting the individual volumes or try and wait for the next compendium (if there is gona be one).

Well that's me off the x-men books for the foreseeable future then. He ran out of ideas for avengers years ago, what could he honestly bring to the x-men that would make them worthwhile? He should just stick to one "gritty" character like Daredevil or Moon Knight, that's when he's at his best.

Also liking the further mention of a possible marvel reboot/relaunch. It's the only reason i'm excited for AvX/Ultron War to see if they take a bigger risk with big characters than DC did.

Jason Aaron was saying in interviews he's on Wolverine and the X-Men long-term so if this is true it's probably Kieron Gillen getting the push from Uncanny. Which is a shame as his run has been pretty good.

Not surprising though considering he's like the one x-men writer atm who isn't involved in AvX. Shame
