I think those three pre-tapes Rock did last night will stand the test of time. It'll be one of those things you'll back on fondly - on compilation DVDs & such. I hope it makes the WrestleMania extras actually.

It's in Cleveland -

The more I think about it, the more Cena no selling everything bugs me. That's basically why he is hated, there is nothing to connect to. He doesn't seem to care about anything anyone ever says or does to him, which basically makes everything one sided. If it was Punk vs Rock I think it would actually be much more compelling.

Had Y2J pinned Cena for example, Cena would have grinned and shrugged his shoulders.

Next week should be good with the Rock concert. Only thing that concerns me is without being able to slate the fans it could lose its edge a fair bit. I mean, first time round it worked because Rock was heel. Depending on the crowd, the rap could potentially bomb.

The worst was the Raw after Wrestlemania last year. Loses the title the night before, but still comes out with a shit-eating grin as if nothing has happened, and says he doesn't want to fight Miz again for the title :?

Cena's flippancy is irritating in the extreme. Rather than appearing confident or assured, his constant looking into the crowd and mugging to the cameras makes him look like a bellend. His whole promo was about needing to fight the real Rock, and when starts to give him what he wants Cena still has that shit-eating grin. Over the last few months the development of Cena's character is comparable to a time attack videogame. Okay, you have 90 minutes to turn Cena heel, special items you can use to further progress are Roddy Piper, Kane, Mick Foley, Eve & Zach Ryder. Ooh, just missed out, got really close though, reset to zero and try again next week.

Seriously, what the strawberry float was with Cena's angry face earlier this year? You would have thought it was leading to something, but as Maf points out it's nothing more than new week, more of Cena back to doing what he doesn't particularly do well but it's been pushed for so long that we kinda tolerate it. His stuff tonight was above par for him, but that's only because he is frequently dreadful on the mic nowadays.

RAW did a 3.2 rating. WWE have a problem, & it's the same problem TNA have - they've lost all their drawing powers. And they can't blame the NFL this week either. Or an over-run that went on forever.

Lost viewers in hour 2 again too.

No they have a problem and it's called the Internet. People are busy ... Why go to the effort of watching something live when you can watch it more conveniently later. Ratings are a nonsense nowadays

6/12/24 months ago, an appearance by Steve Austin, or Shawn Michaels or The Rock would have bumped the rating up considerably. It's like this argument with piracy - if it was having that much of an impact, UFC & WrestleMania wouldn't be doing record or close to record buyrates. Stuff trending on Twitter hasn't had any correlation to anything. Viewership of SmackDown & NXT on WWE's official YouTube channel is complete crap (a paltry 18,000 for the 24th Feb episode of SmackDown, 9,000 for the latest NXT). That wouldn't even move 0.1 of a point.

Honestly though, we fans know the product just isn't as good as it once was, so we're increasingly using news sites and videos to catch any developments which further exasperates the problem. We've already seen The Rock return and get in the same ring as Cena a few times now, so he wont draw as much as his first appearance in years and there's still needless shite clogging up the shows. Who actually cares about Kelly Kelly and Eve not getting along? And poor Ryder, going from the US champ to a love storyline with Eve (not that I would complain).

TNA and WWE seem to just draw the same numbers each week with no real change to speak of, because they have nothing that will attract new viewers or get older fans to tune in again bar past stars returning. Hell, part of me expects 'Mania wont be as big as some believe. :shifty:

Nah, it's just piss poor management over the past few years. They've bombed quickly through every possible great long term angle (Punk steals the title away) or never given it a chance to really get off the ground (Nexus). They've pushed Cena as being more important than any title, they've got so many titles and tossed them around so much they barely mean anything anymore to anyone, they book every up and comer to fail with shitty gimmicks or a losing streak (Sometimes combining the two!) and over the past few years they've lost main event talent such as Edge, HBK, Undertaker, Triple H and Batista without adequately replacing them. WWE hasn't given the majority of people a reason to care for a while, so they don't.

The people aren't watching later, they're just not watching.

You've summed up a lot of the main problems there Sykes. While the WWE still has it's moments, I wonder if it will ever be truly great again? Either way I'll be a glutton for punishment and keep watching.
