You're right. When it's old, they overprice because it's hard to get. When it's new, they overprice because of the style and the shizzle and high demand. Either way, Apple win, and the consumer loses.

At least your Mac sees all your RAM. Mine only sees 1 of the 2 sticks it has. :x

Hey dudes, quick question. The casing on my old Macbook is worn off in places and is generally wrecked. It's three years old this month but I do have Applecare. Anyone know if that would be covered?

Probably not, it's just a warranty by another name so they replace parts that break through no fault of the user. You could try to damage it around the hinges to make it look natural so they have to replace the whole case, but is it worth the risk?

Actually, do this, document every stage including getting a mate secretly film you in the apple store. You'll be an internet legend.

Is it a white plastic one? If yes then it's a fault on them. They usually replace them for you free of charge. Especially if its still in warranty.

Yeah it is. Big bits of it have chipped off around the sides. I remember reading that extensive use could cause serious wearing on the white cases, but I only read this after I bought the strawberry floating thing back in 2009. Cheers Denny.

Wont hurt to ask. They usually take it off you for a day or so.

I wasn't talking about Apple. I meant crucial.com/uk. I don't think Denster bought from Apple.
Anyway, just realised I could've upgraded to 16Gb on my Mac mini. I bought 8Gb as I thought that was the maximum it could handle. :fp:

And with the white MacBooks, the Apple store will definitely replace the keyboard cover section. It's a known fault. You just need to get them to order it in and it'll be done for free.

So the iPad 3 might be called the iPad HD.

You probably won't notice a difference until you try and do something like converting video or using Aperture. If you wanna make your MacBook really snappy, stick an SSD in it.

Higher res screen, speed bump, better camera blah blah blah.

iOS6 is where the hype should be aimed. Tablets are a gateway to software. There isn't really anything they can do to the iPad hardware other than make the numbers bigger and add more ports.

iPads are sometimes criticised for lacking in professional level functionality. I imagine one of the aims Microsoft will try to achieve with their Windows 8 Metro tablets is make them full-featured computers. Maybe this will lead to Apple making some bigger changes.

Now this I'd be interested in...

http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/07/ipad ... e-display/

Quote:
Remember Senseg's tactile touchscreen displays? Well, last December the company showed off a screen that used an electrostatic field to simulate friction and textures on the glass. Such technology was a couple of years away from being commercially viable, but there's a tiny glimmer of a chance it might be the new killer iPad feature. Pocket-lint spoke to a company rep who cryptically said that the company wasn't making any statements until "after Apple's announcement." Why would they issue any statement tied to today's Apple news? Could it connect with a remark made back in June 2011 to Trusted Reviews, that Senseg had partnered with a "certain tablet maker based in Cupertino?" Maybe that line in Apple's invitation to today's event is another clue: "We have something you really have to see. And Touch." After all, Siri was announced at the "Let's talk iPhone" event, so it wouldn't be the first time the company places vague hints under our noses. Still, we have but a few hours left to wait until we really know what's coming, so join us for the live announcement later today.

I didn't even know this technology existed.

Anyway, Live updates, no stream sadly.

With the emphasis being on 'touch' there seems like a real possibility that there'll be haptic feedback
