Friday is when I get to go downstairs and smash the gooseberry fool out of the leg press (180kg I can do on that, 3 sets, of 10reps.)

Why leg press when you can squat instead?

Because I like to leg press? Isn't it the same core muscles worked?

Squat = free weight exercise
Leg press = machine-assisted exercise

Check Google for more information.

Quote:
The leg press is not totally evil. It offers certain advantages, like a simpler learning curve than the squat, although the squat is easy to learn with a good, qualified coach. The leg press may offer other advantages in rehabilitative clinical settings, for people with certain disabilities and other limiting factors, or as an accessory movement. It is tough to take any exercise seriously when televangelist Pat Robertson claims he can leg press 2000 pounds, and 73 year old Madelyn Albright stated in the New York Times she can do over 400 pounds! Strength and conditioning coach, legend and author Mark Rippetoe, sums it up best: “There is simply no other exercise, and certainly no machine, that produces the level of central nervous system activity, improved balance and coordination, skeletal loading and bone density enhancement, muscular stimulation and growth, connective tissue stress and strength, psychological demand and toughness, and overall systemic conditioning than the correctly performed full squat.

Smashed myself at the gym.

Jogged (and fast walked) 2.1Km in 18 mins. Then cycled for 10 mins. Did a shitton of weights and finished up with some ab rolls and 5 mins on the cross trainer. Decided not to use the abdominal machine any more. It's strawberry floating crap and I can't feel it in my abs, despite having half the maximum weights and doing it as correctly as I can.

The milkshake was a great idea. Filled me up after my workout

Are you sure? I remember in high school they made us do the 12 minute run test, and I managed to run about 2.4 km in that time. I'm not saying this to brag; my condition was terrible, I was underweight, never did sports, wished I was dead for most of the run and barely made the whole 12 minutes without collapsing on the floor of pulmonary exhaustion or something. Pretty sure I was wheezing at the end. So there's no way you did 2.1 km in 18 minutes.

It's not that difficult to run or jog 2.1km in 18 minutes. :?

EDIT: Incidentally, managed some belting distances(for me) in the gym tonight doing twenty minutes on each machine. 9.7km on the cross trainer, 10.5km on the bike and 4.68km on the rower. Massive improvements on everything.

Anyone could walk 2.1 km in less than 18 minutes is what I'm saying.

Unless I'm mistaken that's just over 4mph. I walk at the speed.

Well he did say jog/fast walk. I'm betting he doesn't jog too quickly.

Yeah it's 7 km/h. Normal walking speed.

I call bullshit, Fatal Exception.

Am I reading this wrong  I had it set to set to 9 of whatever the speed is (Km or Miles per hour), it doesn't say but I assumed Km. I jogged for most then had it set to 6 whilst I was fast walking....

In the end distance said 2.1...

7 isn't a normal walking speed on the machine. It's that horrid in between running and fast mincing speed.

Sounds about right to me tbh. I did 20 minutes on 8.0km/h (elevation 3, because apparently that offers the same resistance as running outside. Robbo can confirm that or call me a spastic and explain why) which is a jogging speed. Got 2.5km as I had to slow it the strawberry float down for a while when I got stitch. :fp:

Dinner:

Lettuce, half a cucumber and 10 chopped cherry tomatoes. 2 tbspns thousand islands on top + one boiled egg and some tuna fried in olive oil and garlic and ginger paste.

Bloody delicious.

Was very weak in the gym today. 80kg squats which were quite hard. :(

Bench and deadlift are still okay.

You were weak. You had strawberry floating salad with a sprinkle of tuna on top for dinner. You were weak. tsk.

I was told 1.5->2 elevation was the same as running outdoors. Guess it wouldn't hurt to knock it up a bit. I really feel it in my calfs when I run though, especially on higher elevations. They seem to be my weak link there, but I'm sure it will get better in time.

Luckily, I have a huge park two minutes from my house so I don't have to worry about elevation. I should really start logging down times and whatnot, though. I tend to just run until I feel like I'm going to stop existing.

Really? That's a good thing to know, I'm thinking of training up for a 10km and don't want to go outside yet. I remember reading on the oatmeal when he did some sort of super marathon his brother ended up injured because he only trained on a treadmill, so don't want to do that.

Had a big lunch and what not. Didn't even feel like eating after having my chocolate milk after my workout but whipped that up for protein and veg.

Working up to 25 push ups twice daily, now on 23 after starting at 10 a few weeks ago. It's good, my upper body strength is getting better daily.

I started doing treadmill runs and then went to running outdoors. They are very different. If youre training for a 10k try to do some real running as soon as possible. IMO its easier to run out doors than on a treadmill. Not sure about all that crap about the elevation on the treadmill, i think thats rubbish. I started using mapmyrun and a stopwatch to get my average speeds, i think you get a much better sense of satisfaction. I think there are apps on the smart phones that will sat nav and time your run (endemondo?) So i would suggest doing that rather than the treadmill.
