So, the little one is arriving on Friday (at the latest) via a C-Section as she's in a breach position (wrong way around - 'feet first' instead of head first). This can be dangerous, so she's getting the delivery early by the top surgeon in this field at her work (he's the one all of the midwives who give birth go to). So unless my wife's waters break before Friday (I sure as hell hope not!), then I'll have a bunch up baby pics to post up soon!  The baby is already 37 weeks, so pretty much ready to go as is.

I'm currently shitting enough bricks to build a - rather large - house

You're in MK aren't you?

In Huntingdon these days, I work in MK and I have a crash pad still there for late night testing at work.

Ahh.. it's just that a guy at my work's wife is due to give birth on Friday and they live in MK. I was going to do the whole "small world" thing but it turns out it isn't at all. You won't be high fiving my work mate after all.

Anyway, good luck. Exciting times. As Lagamorph says, get as much sleep before baby comes home as you can, because you won't have a minute to yourself for the next 18 years.

Best of luck Andrew, hope it all goes well.

Amazing times ahead. And messy. Very, very messy. But fun! And messy. Lots of mess.

You'll be fine :)

All the best to you and your wife.

My wife ended up having C sections with both of our girls. The first was an emergency one, after being induced and not progressing. The second was planned as a consequence of the first. It was quite an odd experience driving to hospital to have a baby!

Just relax and let yourself and your mrs enjoy the pregnancy mate. Its an awesome feeling cuddling up to your wife's belly(not yours personally)and feeling your baby move about.

There is no need to rush about buying everything at the start, write a list of what you need and take your time getting the stuff(usually the parents and family chip in). Dont buy too much clothes or stuffed toys because you will be inundated with all that once the wean emerges.

Do some practice runs to the hospital and back so you dont get too flustered on when the time comes.

Remember its yours and your wife's baby, there are always at least a couple of obnoxious relatives telling you that your doing it wrong. Advice should only be given if you ask for it.

Prepare for the life you know to completely change, because it WILL change. I love my bairns like nothing else but there was a time when it was like I was in mourning for the life I once had.

Great advice here, listen closely my friend. Do your best to convince the mrs to exclusively breastfeed. One its better for the baby by miles and 2 you dont have to do any through the night feeds:-)

Forget about buying fancy clothes and expensive trainers because kids cost a strawberry floating bomb. Its Primark for you from now on i'm sorry to tell you.

There may also be times before the kid is born when you totally stress yourself out, will I be a good dad, what if I lose my job, will my wife lose the baby weight. I had some mental panic attacks thinking about gooseberry fool.

Develop new ways to masterbate, because sex goes out the window for a long time(i had to deliver my wee girl last june because we didn't have time to make it too the hospital, and strawberry floating hell it almost turned me gay;-)

Dont worry if you dont like kids,i generally cant stand children(they use me as a climbing frame and give me their bogeys)but I worship my own. Thing is though you wont just love your child, you'll completely fall in love with them.

Dont worry if you know nothing about kids, most people dont but you learn quickly how to nurture and protect(and there are always internet videogame forums if you get stuck;-)).

You know those times in the supermarket when there is a brat screaming his head off because they're not getting their own way? Shitty parents you may say to yourself, but as I have discovered, sometimes kids just take tantrums. They're coming to term with understanding their emotions and its difficult for them. Luckily my two year old aint to bad(he's a strawberry floating legend),he only really gets cranky over food related stuff(wont eat his tea, wants food inbetween mealtimes etc),or if he's tired. Dont go shouting at them if they take a tantrum though, talk to them rationally and ride it out. Threats of violence and intimidation are NOT the way to go,treat them how you'd like yourself to be treated.

Good luck, its a challenge and a half. I actually find it easier with 2 kids for some reason.

I'm actually in beside the wee man as I write this,i always have to stay with him until he falls asleep(total daddys boy) and this is the first night for him without a dummy. He's snoring away though so I think he'll be ok. Sometimes I just cuddle in to Archie and go to sleep myself, the wife comes and wakes me up after she gets Esme(8 month old diva) down to sleep.

BEST FEELING EVER

Just wait until you get baby home and the sheer size of the responsibility dawns on you. What was the only time in my life were I really panicked.

Good luck for Friday and take advantage of you wife being in hospital a few extra days by sleeping a lot.

At 9:25am Charis Elizabeth Mills was born with zero complications weighing in at a very respectable 7lbs 1oz just over 2 weeks early by c-section. It was over so quickly, when I asked if the surgeon had started, he was already almost finished!  It still hasn't sunk in, but I can't stop staring at the little miracle we now have.

Below are the pics and a link to a video I've put together to share for friends and family. My wife and child are in hospital and I'm back home, ready for the next 12 hour visit again tomorrow. :)

Now if you excuse me, I need a ton of sleep as I've hardly slept over the last 3 days :(

What's with the hairnet? Is that because your missus had a c-section?
