Yeah I know, the last two games weren't too tough on paper though.

Norwich away is a tough game. Norwich away is always a tough game. If anything it's even tougher now with Lambert in charge.

His being fit for Spurs will be down to him having recovered and nothing else. Were this not the business end of the season I'd say you were right, but I cannot believe Fergie would risk not having him there at all if it wasn't warranted.

I love Paul Lambert. Managerial legend. Playing legend. All round legend.

I disagree.
12 games left with only a 3 point gap.
Norwich have been hard to break down at home, but teams at the top of the PL should, and do, have enough to win there. Like I said, I only saw MOTD highlights, but it looked like united could have won by 4 or 5. Just looking at the last 10 away games, Uniteds away form is brilliant.
EDIT @ sok

The gap was 5 points going into the game.

Was it 5 when Rooney's illness was announced?

Also, I made a mistake, gap is now 2

It was announced either the day of the match or the day before (the Ajax return match).
Fergie's taken risks in the past but that's always been before European games not after. And why risk not playing Rooney *at all* when he could just as easily have played him in the game and then said he'd picked up a knock? You don't think it was a huge risk because they could have scored 4 or 5, but Fergie knows how Norwich always put in a shift when facing United which makes me think he'd have played the strongest team possible.

Not that I care if he plays for England or not

Does seem a roundabout way of doing things if it was the case.
As bear said though, he should never have been picked in the first place.
Should probs move on from this, never going to be able to prove/disprove it.
Whatever the case with Rooney, I wish people (and probs more importantly their managers) would treat having the opportunity to play for their country with more respect.

Why shouldn't Rooney have been picked? I thought he'd been playing quite well recently. Not sure I can think of 5 others strikers who have been better. Is it more to do with getting rid of the old "golden generation" of players?

If we don't have Rooney in the England team then our chances of doing well are even worse. Still, I'm glad he won't be in it as a United fan.

Wouldn't class Rooney as part of the golden generation, I still think he has more to offer.
I was thinking more in terms of picking such a key player for united at this time in the season is only going to create further animosity between club and country.
He's banned for the first few games anyway so what's the point in picking him now? We know what he can do on his day.

Englands preparations for the Euro's are awful though, no matter what way you look at it. No idea what the team will be and no manager 3 months away. :fp:

Who cares if Rooney is missing for the England game? He is banned anyway for the first two games, so we need to experiement. We haven't got anyone who can fill his void. I would say Sturridge perhaps, but he has played out wide all season.

I feel bad for him as he deserves a go, he should have gone to South Africa to be fair.

Interesting(ish) stat;

If Own Goal was a player, he would be Man United's joint 7th all-time goalscorer with 168 goals, tied with Wayne Rooney and Joe Spence. In the league, Own Goal would be the joint 6th all-time goalscorer with 137 goals, tied with the mighty George Best.

Own Goal 8-)
