I thought Brienne and Jaime's chapters were the only highlights of A Feast for Crows.

Really, the later chapters of Brienne's were actually good, because of other characters she met and so on. It was because of those chapters that I felt Brienne herself was improved as a character. I would rank her higher than Bran, in fact.

Also Jaime's chapters show how much he has changed since Game of Thrones.

But yes, it's the weakest book in the series. But it's still good.

Glad I'm not alone in this. 8-)

Really Bran's chapters are so strawberry floating dull. The only highlight is Hodor himself. Even when Bran the "three-eye crow" himself, I was disappointed. A bit creepy yes, but I was like "is that it?!"

I just hope there's a big payload coming regarding Bran (apart from the ability to see the past or present throught the POWER OF GOD TREES! Worst superpower ever considering he can't change anything?!. Otherwise what's the strawberry floating point?

Who says he can't?

What about when he whispered Theon's name to him? I'm not sure he would have attempted the rescue if not. (ADWD spoiler)

So I'm still on part 1 of ASoS. Really enjoying most of it, except Bran and parts of Arya story.

One question. Got to the part in one of Arya's chapter where some old woman is talking about a dream she had. Is this a little hint at things? The first line is like "a shadow with a golden heart butchering a golden stag", is that related to Renly? And are the other lines future hints? Or is it me reading too much into things?

Got a ADwD part 1 and 2 today as well. Must resist looking at back of book

I remember getting the impression that the overall conclusion of this series is going to heavily involve Bran and Arya.
Both characters have had relatively little impact in the grand scheme of things and Martin certainly seems to be "preparing" both characters for bigger things to come.

Arya with her assassins training and Bran with his hippie tree-powers.

Some ADWD spoilers in there.

That is what I thought. Otherwise it's just pointless waffle, padding of the saga.

Onto ASoS part 2 now.

Jamie rescuing Brienne 8-)

Arya getting kidnapped by someone else, again :fp:

Oh and from part 1, possibly my favourite moment so far that I can't wait to see on the tv show: Dany getting her dragons to burn those slavers and steal the Unsullied. 8-) 8-)

I agree. I think he has an important plans for these two characters.

And Hodor obviously.

I love Theon's chapters, the way Martin has transformed him is genius! His complete and utter fear of Ramsey is actually quite scary and the way his mind works sometimes even makes me laugh, he's sooo strawberry floated up.
My name is Reek, it rhymes with Freak.

Man, that Ramsay is a piece of work. Somehow I felt he's much more evil than the Lannisters combined.

Ha, I fell into this trap. An iTunes blurb let on that Tommen was made king before I got to that point. Cheers Steve Job, you stupid dead twat.

For anyone who hasn't yet gone digital, Amazon have the first four books in a 2 for £7 promotion. Just received the two volumes of A Storm Of Swords, quite liking the new covers, although slightly annoying they've made the books taller with the reissues. My poor first two volumes now resemble Tyrion next to the latter volumes.
