I'm reading through these at a pretty slow pace. Originally started a few years ago and got back into it after the TV show.

Just about 100 pages into A Storm of Swords (book 2) last night;

Oh great another Catelyn chapter  Better blast through this before bed so... OH strawberry float WHAT THE strawberry floating gooseberry fool JUST HAPPENED

That was basically my reaction.

Looks like the publisher is splitting A Dance With Dragons into two books for its paperback format. :|

Got the whole series as e-Books but need to find the time to properly crack on with it.

Got the remaining The Old Republic novels to finish and then after that it'll be straight onto this!

Bollocks. I have the hardback, but it irritates me by dominating my book shelf with it's enormity and not fitting in with the other books in the series. I was planning on selling the hardback and then buying the paperback, but now the plan is doubly expensive.

Also there's an "interactive" ebook of the first volume, Game of Thrones up at Apple's iBooks, with tracking maps, commentary etc for £6.99.

Finally got round to reading these since getting the 1-4 paperback set cheap during christmas. Anyway less than 200 pages to the end of the first book and I'm really enjoying it. Obviously alot of the characters in my mind are now influenced by the tv show, but it does help with the names and remember who is who (although i'm still struggling with some side characters). One thing I love about it is that just as I feel like i'm missing a particular character, bam chapter on them. It's almost scary how psychic it is at that  Going to try and at least finish the 2nd book before season 2 of the tv show starts.

I've already got a list of characters I want to painfully die

Joffrey :x :x
Cersei :x :x :x :x
Sansa :x
and that kid that is like 6 and still sucking on his mother's tits. He was even more annoying in the tv show, can't wait for him to die via "flying". :x :x

One question, and no spoilers please, but do we get more chapters dedicated to other characters in future books?

Oh absolutely, you haven't met even half of all the POV (Point Of View, i.e. chapters told from their perspective) characters in the series yet. And of those that you have met, a few only become POV characters in later books. Like (minor spoiler) Cersei and Jaime.

About half way through A Feast For Crows (Page 400ish)

Dissapointing so far. Brienne! How is she a POV character, shes tedious as strawberry float! Nobody gives a strawberry float if Pod is with you or if your mate got his head done in with a mace.

Jaime, Sansa and the Dorne story have been the most interesting so far. The Ironborn is quite interesting and I recon will help make the next book great. But bloomin heck after the epicness of ASOS this is so slow. Still a VERY good read, don't get me wrong, but the POV characters are lacking. I miss John Snow desperately, and Tarly is no longer on the wall :( Will read 50 pages or so tonight but have to start with another Brienne chapter, normally every time I reach her I wait a few days before picking up the book again, Martin could have at least made her fit and horny like Dani :fp: .

Finished reading A Clash of Kings earlier and loved it, more so than AGOT even.

The Tyrion chapters in particular are just fantastic, glad there were so many them throughout. Shame about how he ended up in the end though, poor guy can't catch a break. And I was absolutely seething when it looked like Bran and Rickon were dead, though judging by some of the reactions in this thread I'm guessing that there's much worse to come in the later books. :(

If that upset you - you'll die when you've read the next one.

Also I read somewhere (I can't remember what) is that there will be no new POV characters in volume 6.

Seeing some of the reactions of new readers makes me happy. Too happy. One of the reasons why I keep coming in here :D

I love the 'Oh my god - wait till you get to this bit' aspect of it!

Martin's willingness to cull his star characters is both admirable and traumatising!
