No, Romney's going to win; by which I mean, at a minimum, he will go to the convention with a majority of delegates. The length and manner of the contest up to that point will make all the difference in the general election.

I think Obama will win with a comfortable margin either way. We'll be safe

If it stops the White House from falling to the Republicans, then I hope he succeeds. Anyway, most US politicians make pledges on the campaign trail that cannot or will not be honoured in office. Reagan and Bush, for example, ran on platforms promising small government, but they can hardly be said to have done anything about it in office.
