I'm watching the Attack of the Edit commentary now. My god, there's actually a pretty good film under all of Lucas' crap. I urge any Star Wars fans to check out these edits.

The guy doing the commentary is a real genius, and knows what he's on about. You learn so much just from listening to him. In the first one he sounds very humbled that this thing took off, and he has a real apologetic tone to George Lucas, mentioning how he's sorry the media have blown this up into a big middle finger at him, etc. In the second he just sounds so annoyed at George for still being so useless, and so determined to make it into a good film.

Just finished off Attack of the (Phantom) edit, there. very good stuff. A shame he left the Yoda fight scene in merely because he felt that people would focus on the fact he took it out rather than what taking it out adds to the scene.

Also have just checked out the despecialised editions of episodes 4 and 5. Looks very nice indeed.

How'd you get them downloaded so fast? I'm getting 200kb/s if I'm lucky! :x

I'm still trying to pluck up the courage to watch the holiday specials. It's either that or the phantom menace *shudder*

The Yoda fight scene is awesome. Went to the midnight showing of Clones and people were standing up and cheering at that point. It's one of the best bits of the film.

Just read that - good find, Skippy. It sounds brilliant. I have to admit to slightly liking Darth Maul, but I agree he's a redundant character. I'm on the verge of introducing the Mrs to the films on BluRay and I'm seriously considering going for this order now.

My only concern was the spoiling of the brother/sister reveal in VI, but reading the comments, it sounds like the actual birth scene of the twins works just as well as a reveal/twist.

It kinda ruins the character by having him zipping off the walls, but strawberry float that logic when the film's so awful that's the kind of thing that partially makes up for it. Shame it was ruined for me by a lego set I saw just before going to the cinema

The torrents on demonoid had a fair few seeds, but I was only getting about that too. Left them for a couple of days, see.

Visually, yeah it's great, but it completely ruins the whole point of Yoda.

Watch from 2.11.

I think pretty much everyone LIKES Darth Maul, but it pretty much confirms what I've said before: Episiode 1 is entirely redundant. It has some great scenes (I'm rather fond of the Pod Race myself), but absolutely nothing which is important to the story and far too many things which are positively ruinous to it.

Hence why you should watch The Phantom Edit. It makes it surprisingly watchable and borderline good.

But still fairly redundant in terms of it's connection to the Luke/Vader story.

What... the... strawberry float... are... you... talking... about?

I believe he's pretending that episodes I, II and III never happened, therefore making the original trilogy I, II and III (not IV, V and VI), thus IV, V and VI not existing. He's cocked it up by referring to Star Wars as "A New Hope" though.

But they've been Episodes IV, V and VI since after Empire. :?

Exactly.

Maul should have been great. My biggest problem with phantom menace is that there is no phantom menace. i went to see that movie thinking that maul would be running around being a menace, killing jedi, assassinating senators, being generally bad ass, when infact he's on screen for like 12 minutes and then thats it.

he should have been handled the way ventress is in the clone wars series, a sith prodigy that continuely is on the front foot trying the do over jedi, strawberry float stuff up and is generally a god damn menace!

i honestly thought maul was going to be introduced in the first film and would be a main player until the end, i remember talking with mates at the time thinking that maybe he would have been the apprentice that anakin would have eventually replaced... then we saw the film :fp:
