But no, I meant the Chinese girl. :shifty:

Ah. You think the American we met might be the same girl though? I didn't think she was an ex-CIR, just an ex-JET. She was about 5 foot, very smiley, couldn't really see her boobs the way she was dressed.

Edit: I was assuming when she said ex-JET she meant ex-ALT. She could have been CIR :o

Comment approval :x The shitposting was only there because I found your link to the blog when I read through the thread earlier. Google's auto-translation makes for great reading "Was riding the train Irene Chan, took a picture of the heart odious."

Anyway I begun reading the thread because I want to have a go at learning Chinese and I wanted to know if any more notable resources had been found since the last post containing them in the thread. I figure I'll have a go at the basics now and then look at some courses either in the summer or when I decide next year's electives (I'm hitting myself for not looking into this last year as I could have taken two extra electives in a language by now if I'd looked before I came to uni :fp: )

Besides the British Council and the JET programme, does anyone have any links to any more study/work abroad schemes in China or Japan that I can still apply for?

This is what I did last year mate (http://www.taiwanembassy.org/ct.asp?xIt ... =2240&mp=1). Was absolutely mint. It's for studying, but I did an internship and taught English on the side as well. Taiwan is an amazing country (/place), too. Not sure if applications are still open.

There's also Confucius institute scholarships that are much the same but mainland-based. (http://www.confuciusinstitute.ac.uk/new ... 47&result=)

Both are great and well worth a look in!

Is the Confucius Institute one not just limited to Scottish students?

Also, do you have to be currently a student to apply? As I have my degree already and did my Chinese language qualifications last academic year (ending this summer) and am not currently studying. I'm just employed, trying to save up money to do an MA and some studying abroad.

Cheers though, I'll have a look around this. I am just going to apply to as many as possible - within reason - and see what offers I get.

This website looked quite good: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-course/

But the problem is, loads of websites offer TEFL courses and placements, so it's hard to tell who are decent.

The Taiwanese one definitely isn't limited to Scottish students, not so sure about the Confucius Institute one. Best check their non-Scottish website. Worth a look-in anyways. Not so sure about the mainland, but there are enough decent teaching positions in Taiwan that you can just turn up with nothing arranged and find a full-time teaching job in a couple of weeks.

Again, just some ideas. Hope the search proves to be a fruitful one.

Yeah, the whole JET forum memberbase by the looks of things.*

*Despite being a member, obviously I'd rather know now, but I'm not clawing at my face in anticipation. They'll let us know when they will. Freaking out like half of the posters on that place won't make the time pass any faster. :|

I'd just like to know so I can start to make other plans if I haven't been excepted. You kinda have to put everything else on hold until you hear back.

You should be making plans anyway. You can always turn down any offer you get if you get offered JET and something else.

Still waiting to find out about my Erasmus application for next year. :| It's a horrible wait, but, if it is unsuccessful, I should have enough time to throw another application together (and, if that was unsuccessful, do the second semester last year abroad).

Any luck regarding anything for next year for anyone else? JET or otherwise?

I wouldn't mind spending some time teaching in Mexico (or anywhere in South America really) after graduating, so I'll look into that over the summer.
