I most likely won't be getting the One-X anyway, as I'm not due to upgrade until around October, I think, by which time I'm sure there will be something better out.

No dedicated menu button? I'm oot!

That's standard for ICS, so get used to it. ;)

It's just Back, Home and Task Switcher now. Google are encouraging developers to add a menu button into their apps where necessary.

Whaaaaat. :|

What will happen when my HD gets upgraded to ICS? Will the menu button just cease to work? :?

Also, I have a dock and I'm on Sense 3.0.

I'm running ICS on my HD now. The menu button still works, it's just not being added to many new phones due to Google's guidelines. The Galaxy Nexus doesn't have any hardware buttons at all, but the software replacements are again Back, Home and the Task Switcher.

I didn't realise they'd added a dock for 3.0, but then I haven't used Sense for a while. In the past at least you were stuck with their fixed phone, app tray and theme buttons at the base of the screen, because you never know when you might need to change your theme in a hurry! :shifty: I switched out Sense for Launcher Pro within about five minutes of getting my HD.

in all honesty i'm tempted to get the samsung Solid Extreme and get a super cheap contract.

nothing out there at the mo i really like.

still about 2 months before the contract is up, hopefully something cool will come along.

I'm assuming symbian 3's app store isn't well supported and thats why people don't like it? i'm asking because i have strawberry float all apps and don't care for them tbh, apps doing gooseberry fool i don't need and have managed to get this far in life without... i mean the most useful app i have and most used has been my spirit level.

Symbian' 3's a dead OS, or near enough. Nokia were just about keeping it alive, but even they've all but abandoned it now in favour of Windows Phone 7. There's such a range of Android handsets now that I'd be very surprised if you can't find anything you like.

If you really don't want to use apps then you'd be better off buying a dumbphone on pay as you go. You'll save a lot of money and enjoy much longer battery life.

EDIT: I see that's exactly what you're planning to do!

I take it the SGSII 1st March ICS rumour was just that then? It's all gone very quiet.

Not heard anything. Isn't it supposed to update over the air with that kies thingy?

This happened with my hero...took forever to update that. Thought that with the exceptional popularity of the S2 it would get the newer version of android quicker. If it did it would still hold it own with most phones released after it. Maybe they don't want it being a direct rival to the nexus and so are waiting a while?

How annoying! :x I seem to have somehow jammed the on/off button on my Nexus S in, making the button useless (although despite being jammed in, the phone itself doesn't bring up the power off menu constantly), the only way I can use the phone atm is to plug it into the charger which turns the screen on! Thankfully it had a 2 year warranty with Carphone Warehouse as standard so gonna bring into the store and see if they can sort it out. I took off the back case and used a sewing needle to try and dig out any dirt/grit which might have been blocking the button! From the looks of it, you can take of the inner-back case as long as you have a really narrow screwdriver which I imagine will allow greater access to the button to remove anything blocking it. They better have that screwdriver in store!

EDIT: Brought it into Carphone Warehouse, they never fix in store, so it's going to Samsung who will "take up to 2 weeks" for me to get it back. CW have given me a dumbphone in the meantime, god it fills archaic. No more whatsapp, web browsing, youtube, 24/7 email access. Horrifyingly dull prospect to endure. At least it's sorted though.

Does anyone know of any twitter and email apps that on the Samsung Galaxy S2 display new tweets/emails on the lock screen, much like the message app does? It'd be pretty handy if I could just swipe from the lock screen.

I really like the in-ear earphones you get with the Galaxys but does anyone find that rubber bits keep faling out.

What's annoying is that I can never ever find them when they do. They just disappear!

Can you buy spares on eBay or something?

They were nice, but they went the way of all headphones for me. So I ended up with a pair of Sennheisers.

You may not immediately see why I bring this up (especially since they're pretty bloody expensive), but they do, at least, come with spare in-ear plugs.

Get Sennheisers CX300 IIs. They're like the same thing, but a million times more comfy and better sounding. I lost mine for a while and had use ones you are talking about. It was hell.

Nokia have said they will still be supporting Symbian up until 2016, which basically means it's still an active system. Their app store isn't as well stocked as others but all the major apps are there, like Skype, which is about the only thing I use.

I got my phone for $99 (Nokia E72) and it can do basically anything that my girlfriends $500+ Samsung Galaxy SII can. It also has maps actually built into the phone itself, something that AFAIK android devices don't have, what with the google connection. So if you don't have a data plan, or don't have unlimited data I'd say it's a much better choice.
