I read Crime and Punishment earlier this year and found the same thing. Despite being quite a dense book I got through it in about a week, it was a fantastic read.

I'm a very slow reader :shifty:

I've come to the conclusive I'm really rubbish at picking a good book. I'll browse through them in shops, or on Amazon, and buy something that I think sounds good, but end up never finishing them as I get bored. I have much better luck when I just go with what's popular. Started reading The Hunger Games and flew through them (did the same with Twlight a couple of years ago ).

It's made me want to get into reading more often, but going on recommendations rather than trying to find stuff myself. I'm really thinking of picking up a Kindle over the weekend, as one thing that often puts me off getting books is the amount of space they take up.

No idea where to start with the books though. I've always wanted to read Battle Royale, but Amazon don't have a kindle version at the moment. I'm possibly leaning towards Neil Gaiman stuff (loved the Coraline film adaptation), but can't say any of his other books appeal after reading the synopsis of them.

Only read American Gods by him, but it was awesome.

What about some Clive Barker? I find him similar to Gaiman but with a much darker edge. Stuff like Imagica or Great and Secret Show.

I picked up the Bachman books the other night, after watching 'The Assasination of Richard Nixon'. Theyre not connected, but i remember there being a story called 'roadwork' in the Bachman books that was similar in theme to the assassination of Richard nixon, about a guy whos life is going down the toilet while he quietly goes nuts and finally explodes. I remember as a teenager reading it and finding it really boring, but now im older and can identify with that kind of feeling, im enjoying it alot more

So I started reading Ender's Game. I figured I'd heard it's name enough that it was worth reading, even though I knew nothing about it other than it was science fiction. I've read the first 8 chapters and I'm really enjoying it... but I've also noticed all the books that come after it. Is it something that can be read on it's own, or do you really need to read all the follow ups too? And are they as good?

Hey guys, I'm in need of a little help here.
I've recently started looking into a bit of fantasy stuff after a friend got me interested, and I'm looking for a download of the Icewind Dale Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore as I've heard that it's pretty decent.

I managed to get hold of a PDF file but on my kindle it gets retardedly small text, so is next to impossible to read. Any tips on where I could get one in .mobi format or possibly even on how to change the font size of a PDF on kindle? I did try zooming but that means you have to scroll across as well which sucks balls, quite frankly.

Cheers in advance for any help

Loved Ender's Game. To answer your question, I read the first book and never read the others. You can treat the book as a standalone very easily, there isn't a big cliffhanger and there's no real loose ends to speak of.

Halfway through the last Mistborn book and it's hard to see how it will end. I don't think it will be happy in it's conclusion. It's been such a ride though and has totally sold me on Sanderson's other stuff

Just started reading Wintersmith. So far, so good.

Ms. Treason seems like a great character.

We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Very enjoyable although at times it was little to abstract and disjointed, making it difficult to keep up. It was a nice little slice of dystopian literature history.

Got to the bit where Ms. Treason passes away.

Absolutely fantastic. I really don't know how Pratchett manages to walk that line between tragedy and laugh out loud funny so well. It's not just the once either, he goes back and forth between the two a few times.

Excellent.

Pratchett.

Just started reading his latest Discworld novel, Snuff. I have to say this again. Sam Vimes is the best Discworld character ever.

Are electronic copies of books 'out there' for use on one's Kindle? Is there a way to get torrented e-books and put them on my Kindle (I'm a Kindle noob and don't really know what I'm doing)?

Basically, I have IT by Stephen King, but it's ma-hoo-sive and I want to re-read it on my Kindle, in bed, without getting tired arms. I'm actually not being euphemistic here - I hate piracy and I genuinely want the e-versions of my massive book collection, without paying again.

Any help?

I seem to be the only one on the planet who thought American Gods was absolute guff. :|

I know of a particular website, but I don't think it will work with Kindles as it's mainly in ePub format. www.epubbud.com

But then you can always convert them.

http://techsupport.foreverwarm.com/how- ... our-kindle

One warning: Most of the books on that website have shitty formatting. Often you'll find double blank lines, misplaced punctation etc.

He is fantastic, but for my money, Granny Weatherwax and Vetinari are just amazing characters.

I wish I could read Russian! So many amazing books and authors and yet I know they'd be so much better in their original language. Russian literature
