Of course, the other problem with bringing visual novels West is that the PC version will usually have some hentai in there. I understand all of the major distribution sites won't touch explicit sexual content with a bargepole, so that'll have to be removed. Since console versions will usually have aforementioned content cut out already, it means less work for the localisation company.

(Disclaimer: don't know much about Steins;Gate, so probably an irrelevant post as far as this discussion is concerned. But still, it's a factor)

Plus none of the medium-sized translation companies (XSEED, Rising Star, Aksys etc.) is involved with Steam (yet...)

There's rumours that Xseed have just registered with Steam but that's all speculation for the moment.

Regarding translation, even for the more basic of the visual novels, there's still a lot of dialog. To say nothing of ridiculously long epics like the various FS/N games. Some of them are translated and released legitimately via a couple of websites but I'd imagine there's not been anything well regarded enough for a company to justify the investment of the time/effort versus reward.

It is. Also you've got completely the wrong idea. What you're talking about is ero games. Not visual novels.

Well there's visual novels which are mainly plot with perhaps some hentai/sex scenes which are basically there (hopefully) to link into the plot in a coherent fashion and there's ero games which are basically "I have transferred into a new school and now I must strawberry float my way through the entire female population".

Basically my point was: any sex scenes, regardless of how major or minor it is, will have to be nuked from orbit before Steam et al will allow it on their services.

Dunno how overly mainstream this is for this thread, but I watched Ghost in the Shell last week and thought it was excellent.

Just finished Suzuha's ending on Steins;Gate. This is the only place I can really post this where anyone will care about it, so I'll post it here. Here's my Clear List on the PSP version right now. 2 endings (Moeka, Kurisu), well 3 (true end) left to see and it's the first VN I'll have ever completed totally 100%. Been such an amazing ride.

Feyris, Rukako and Mayuri's ends were all good too, but Suzuha's was fantastic.

Basically you don't send the D-Mail back to make sure she leaves on time, so rather than let her fail again you keep time leaping and repeating the same 2 days over and over again. It keeps Mayuri alive and Suzuha doesn't fail so he thinks its for the best, but due to the sheer amount of times you've repeated the same 2 days, you basically start to die inside and Okabe finds it hard to care about anything anymore. Suzuha eventually notices and to try and save you from being stuck in this infinite time loop she asks you to come with her on the time machine. It doesn't tell you if you failed or not, it ends with you getting on with her.

Early bonus present of new chapter of the 9 page manga. Some glorious face designs.

TWGOK was great this week; good to know that in spite of everything going on, they can keep the humour.

Oooh yeah! Great treat to have a new chapter so soon.

Agreed about TWGOK. The only problem is by the end of a chapter you just want more! :(

Complaint about anime DVDs.

What do these stupid companies insist on releasing volumes for completed series? And at such mad prices too? I flat out refuse to purchase an incomplete boxset, or a boxset divided into volumes. FMA: bh has so many volumes, I just want one giant boxset of all 64 episodes without waiting forever for such a product to be released. And such an item shouldn't cost more £'s than there are episodes (actually, it should be half that, £32 for complete boxset given each episode is less than half an hour).

Admittedly volumes make sense for huge ongoing shows like One Piece, but only if each volume represents an entire story arc rather than being an equal number of episodes per volume, if that means volume 1 has 10 episodes because it's a short arc and volume 2 has 30 episodes than that's how it should be done, buying partial arcs would annoy the hell outta me.

So... I started reading Fist of the North Star. Pretty good so far and I really like the art-style of older manga like this, reminds me of JoJo's bizarre adventure which can only be a good thing. Just noticed there's a prequel series that's also well over 200 chapters so yet again I've added to my ridiculously long reading folder. :fp:

@Grumpy: Selling them by arc would only work if people accepted vastly different prices for each arc and non-uniform box sizes. The packaging is a big part of collections so it could actually hurt sales. But yeah, I'd also prefer something to change a little.

At least it's slightly better than Japan: apparently it's $80 for two episodes over there.

$80! Do they at least punch you in the face before you buy it? That way the pain of being ripped off at least wouldn't seem so bad in comparison

Don't a lot of the DVD/bluray sets come with collectible statues or figures and the like over there? And hell, they're not going to lower prices if people are willing to fork out the cash.
