Any experts? Or anybody who knows anything about it?

I picked up a PSP this weekend. It's on firmware version 2.82. It's the old 1000 model. I understand that if I put a custom firmware on it, I will be able to launch isos from the memory stick. I found this tutorial

http://forums.dashhacks.com/psp-tutoria ... odels.html

But I'm confused about stuff like 'Pandora batteries' and loaders.

Help.

Best advice I've seen is in this post:

viewtopic.php?p=2413317#p2413317

No Pandora battery required, and PSN and everything is still accessable.

Just had a look and I'm a bit confused. I take it all these steps have to be done?

Quote:
Hello and welcome everyone.
WARNING : THIS GUIDE IS ONLY FOR PSP 1000 and PSP 2000 with non-TA088v3 motherboard. Don't use it on PSP 2000 ta088v3, PSP 3000 or PSP GO or you'll brick your PSP. Also, Skorpian and PSPSLIMHACKS aren't responsible if you brick your PSP under any conditions. If you follow all steps correctly, you shouldn't brick your PSP. However, if you brick your PSP, it's your sole responsibility.
Today I present you my guide to installing CFW on PSP 1000 and PSP 2000 without TA088v3 without pandora if you were unlucky enough to update your PSP to ofw.
This tutorial works up to 6.35 OFW. If you have OFW more than 6.35, you'll need to use pandora battery and MMS.
If you already have 6.35 OFW, skip installing 6.35 OFW

Installing 6.35 OFW
1-Download 6.35 OFW
2-Extract it
3-Copy EBOOT.PBP to PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder on your PSP memory stick . If you don't have an update folder then create one, but make sure it's all in CAPS
4-Charge your PSP battery to 100% and keep the power cord connected during the update process
5-Go to Game - Memory Stick on your PSP and run the update and follow the onscreen instructions.

6-Once update is done follow rest of steps

Installing&Using 6.35 PRO HEN

1-Download 6.35 PRO
2-Extract it
3-Copy EBOOT.PBP to PSP/GAME/635PROHEN on your PSP ( If you don't have a 635PROHEN folder then make one )
4-Run the HEN from Game-Memory Stick, it should reboot back to XMB
Check from settings-system settings-system information that your version is 6.35 PRO, if so proceed.

Installing&Using Hellcat's Recovery Flasher 1.65

1-Download 5.00 OFW
2-Extract it
3-Rename the EBOOT.PBP resulted from extraction to 500.PBP
4-Copy 500.PBP to the root of your memory stick, next to PSP-Picture folders
5-Download Hellcat's Recovery flasher 1.65
6-Extract it
7-Copy RECOVERY folder to PSP/GAME on your PSP
8-Launch Hellcat's recovery flasher from XMB
9-Agree and proceed
10-Click install CFW of version selected above

11-Agree to reset setting
12-When it's done the psp's green light will keep blinking don't worry this is normal wait for it to finish
13-When it's done it'll reboot ( or shut down )
14-Check your system software from Settings-System Settings-system information. If it shows 5.00 M33-6, Well done!

Hope I helped

DM, I think I can help. I sent Parksey a PM with details of what to do and it worked for him.

I'll forward it to you, too. It's pretty easy, and you certainly don't need to worry about altering the hardware. Everything is now do-able on a software-only level so you can reset to default simply by doing a hard reset.

Cheers,

Steve

Edit - I've sent you that now, but forgot to add that you can update the Official Firmware to the very latest one (6.6, IIRC), if you want - it still works.

The PSP that I bought has some sort of hacked firmware on it, very, very old. Version 2.82!! Anyway, tried updating the PSP, it isn't having it. Apparently I need to contact Sony.

Plan B. Ordered a Pandora's battery from DealExtreme, and downloaded Magic Memory stick maker. This will allow me to boot off the Memory stick duo card and reflash the firmware. Only problem is DealExtreme taking strawberry floating ages to deliver (read a couple of weeks). I could make a Pandora's battery, but I don't fancy cracking open the battery I've got.

Last time I purchase a PSP from a guy in a bootsale.

Yay. Custom firmware get. Pandora's battery finally came. Was up till 1 o clock last night pissing about with this. Couldn't get the Magic memory stick maker to work. It definitely doesn't work in Windows 7, and will only work in Windows XP without any updates from the last couple of years. :? In the end I downloaded a live Windows XP lite version and used that. Just when I thought I'd solved it, another strawberry floating error. Something about corrupt keys, so it was another internet hunt and another utility. Turns out the guy I bought it from did a complete job on it and had messed about with a key which identified what model the PSP was.

Anyway, after this was sorted the strawberry floater was mine. Followed the custom firmware guide Poser PM'ed me. Worked a treat. 8-) And I learnt quite alot too, I feel confident that I can now fix bricked PSPs. Shame it's a dead format
