I'm a little bit late to the party, I've had one for a while and never bothered jailbreaking it. How do I go about doing this process?

I'm on firmware version 4.3.3 if that makes any difference.

jailbreakme doesn't work any more, does it? You'll be able to jailbreak 4.3.3, there's jailbreaks out for pretty much everything now (I'm running 5.0.1 jailbroken).

I can only advise for jailbreaking it on a Mac, so you'll probably need to get into the official iPhone thread for some accurate links, but you just need something like Redsn0w.

Plug your phone in, start that up, and then just click jailbreak and follow the instructions (it's basically: 1) turn your phone off 2) Hold the power button 3) keep holding the power button and hold the home button 4) release the power button). Then you'll get a load of code pop up on your screen, and when it (eventually) starts up again you'll be jailbroken.

I found the best place to use was Youtube since the community likes or dislikes videos depending on whether they are talking gooseberry fool or not. In the end I followed advice from a video to download a software called redsn0w and that will jailbreak for you.

Frank if you can let me know how to jailbreak 5.0.1 that'd be sweet cos my sister has that and I couldn't jailbreak it for her when I tried last month. Did you use redsn0w for that one too?

Any idea how you transfer apps from your PC to your phone? Like... the homebrew ones?

I take it you've downloaded Cydia and Installuous? You basically put the app files into the Installuous downloads folder (software called iFunBox can help with that or you can browse to the right folder) and then open Installuous, go to the downloads tab and select to install the app.

I just used Redsn0w (on the mac, Maf's been complaining for ages they haven't done a windows version yet...)

It can't jailbreak iPhone 4Ss or iPad 2s, though.

Good stuff. Bear in mind that lovefilm and various other streaming resources can now detect that your iDevice is jailbroken so you need to take additional (easy) steps to counteract.

Meh, I don't use my iPhone for streaming anything anyway. I'm guessing youtube will still work fine? :p
