You may want to delete both volumes first, so you have a big block of empty space, then format.

See if I disable the turbo boost monitor thing, that doesn't disable turbo boost itself right? That's done at the bios level surely?

Sweet. It's a bit bulkier than anticipated but will only be lugging it between my house and my parents I suppose.

So I broke the screen on my Dell laptop, took it to the local repair shop and they quoted me £150 for a new one to be fitted. I checked out ebay and get a new screen for just over £50. Is it relatively simple to swap them over?

Also, I've got an older laptop with the same sized screen, would it be okay to pop that bad boy open and swap them over or would the different manufacturers make this a bad idea?

My computer has very suddenly started running like gooseberry fool. A Kaspersky check says that there is a file in my Downloads folder containing something called not-a-virus and is apparently a screensaver. The file name is 67EI.tmp and according to Kaspersky it contains adware. I clicked to fix it and it said that it had but then it said it hadn't and that it had to 'postpone' it. Just restarted and it still seems to be running slowly. Anyone heard of not-a-virus before?

Bit worried guys. Picture just faded on the PC. Then it kinda shut down. All fans dead, nothing being sent to monitor etc- turned on the power button and nothing happened but the fans firing up for 3 seconds or so, then stopping ad infinitum. Eventually turned off at the mains- turned on again and it resumed as normal exactly where I was. Any ideas what's happened? I got the "error noise" when it resumed, but no notification of what had happened.

Might've just overheated.

Checked your processes? Recognise them all?

That's what others have said- but the PC's never overheated once since I've had it, even at 60-70. It's been at a steady 40-45 most the time. All I was doing at the time was browsing the internet.

While I'm here- why does Chrome run about 30 strawberry floating processes?!

Have you got about 30 strawberry floating tabs open? Each tab is a separate process.

Nope. I often have about 7 or 8 but that's all. The amount of processes always seems larger than the amount of htings I'm doing with it.

Chrome creates additional processes for plugins such as Flash and extensions.

Chrome has it's own built-in task manager so you can see what each process is up to. Right click on the title bar and select "task manager".

My PC is sooooo slow all of a sudden. I've restarted it, done a system restore, doing anything takes ages. I'm having to type this post on my phone. I was going to reinstall Windows but that's such a pain, especially since it might not be windows responsible but one of the components shitting out on me.
