Cheers, guys. Good to know it should be relatively easy to get it working.

Perhaps if we want this thread used for general PC queries more, is it worth getting it stickied? We've got threads for TV's and Cameras, so maybe sticky-ing it would mean it wouldn't get lost over 5 pages of "What laptop should I buy?" queries.

Also, I have another question (Sorry :shifty: )

Trying to find a blu-ray burner now, anyone got any advice on good/cheap ones? I guess that the "good" ones won't really be "cheap", though :(

Does that burn onto blu-rays?

Quote:
Write Speeds

•DVD-R: 16x
•DVD-R DL: 8x
•DVD-RW: 6x
•DVD-RAM: 12x
•DVD+R: 16x
•DVD+R DL: 8x
•DVD+RW: 8x
•CD-R: 48x
•CD-RW: 24x

There's no mention of a blu-ray "Write Speed".

I suppose something like this would do:

What do you need the BD writing for?

Thanks for looking, though

That looks like the right kind of thing, Winkle. Cheers  The Blu-Ray writing will mostly be for home videos. Got a 1080p Sony camcorder a while back, so it'd be good to get some 1080p discs done to show it off on the TV.

What do I do about my new rig? I finally got a proper PSU for it, but I just heard about the upcoming recall of the 1155 socket mobos. Would it be alright to set it up and carry on like normal until the recall happens or do I wait until Intel have sorted this whole mess out? I was planning on using the HDDs from my current PC (both SATA) in the new one.

Edit: Apparently I should be fine as long as I stick to using the two 6Gbps ports on the board.

A friend who is currently doing sound engineering in college asked me to build him a PC for use with college assignments. So far this is what I have come up with but it's been two years since I built my rig and I'm out of the loop, plus it was for gaming and not music. Anyway I'd appreciate the advice especially when it comes to soundcards.

This is what I got so far (Sandybridge processors have been recalled :( )

Casecom 5288 Black Mid Tower Case With Full Black Interior/Exterior - 120mm Blue LED Fan
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz 9MB Cache Socket AM3 Retail Box Processor
Asrock N68C-S UCC GeForce 7025 Socket AM2+ VGA Out 6 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard
Xenta 800W 13.5cm Fan PSU - 80plus Certified 6x SATA 6x PCI-E
Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache
Corsair Vengeance 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Memory Kit CL9 1.5V Non-ECC Unbuffered
HIS HD 5770 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI Display Port Out PCI-E Graphics Card

Total atm is £561.82 and the total budget is around £600

*Buying from ebuyer*

First off, 800W is probably overkill for the PSU.

If its just for music editing, you can knock that GFX card right down.

What kind of outputs/inputs does he need for the soundcard?

Yeah I'm gonna have to drop the quality of the soundcard and lower the psu I think. He's not the most computer literate. All he says is that he needs to be able to connect one of these up to it

Looks like that takes stereo ouput jacks, the type that goes into a synth or amp etc.

Cant see any cards on ebuyer that would handle that, they all seem largely gaming focused; optical/headphone jacks etc.

Installing the case fan now: power connector has 4 holes, but the sysfan thingies on the motherboard only have 3 pins.

3 pin = lower voltage and slower spin. Generally quieter.

Didnt the fan come with an adapter for that?
