I dropped my Samsung Galaxy S2 in the toilet and it doesn't turn on. Can anyone recommend a place to try and get it repaired (in London preferably)?

water damamge can be a bitch and will probably need alot of new bit, I would imagine you would be better off getting a new phone (or claiming under insurance as accidental damage, if you dont have phone insurance you may get away with it under your homes contents insurance)

It's probably shorted and needs a new logic board. Lots of money.

Do you know roughly how much like £50 or like £300?

Basically, a new phone. The logic board is like 90% of the phone.

Unfortunately micro electronics are so discreet that the manual cost of repair is often getting close to replacing whole circuits, as they're often just one board and not modular bits linked together anymore. Things like screen, mic, buttons etc might be separated so those parts can be replaced, but if the thing doesn't turn on something has shorted and so the main board (logic board with the CPU on it) gets replaced.

As smartphones pack so much into a small space this is achieved with the tiny circuits that are impossible to solder by hand, so they just get swapped out.

It's probably a write off but there's a chance the screen or something is ok and you can pay for what else, but dropping the whole lot in water usually kills too much stuff.

My iPhone got water damaged. Stuck it in rice for 2 days. Remained borked.

It's probably new phone time.

I only pay £6 for insurance, but that's only cos I've forgotten to cancel it after 3 months free, and I only pay £15.32 for my HTC Desire S so it's still not much to pay monthly. But the £35+ for iPhones, I can understand why people don't pay for insurance.

Thankfully I've never dropped my phone in water but dropping phones in the toilet seems to be the most common form of phone death. Sorry mate - at least you're not the only one.

Having said that I'm not sure my policy covers water damage anyway.
