Since 2005—when we launched Xbox 360—we have sold 67 million consoles and have generated more than $56 billion at retail, and we’re still going strong in our seventh year. With 47 percent share of the current-generation console market, we are hitting our stride largely as a result of the success of Kinect for Xbox 360 (19 million sold ) and the flood of new entertainment options through Xbox LIVE (40 million members).

Quote:
Xbox LIVE subscribers now spend an average of 84 hours per month on the console. For comparison, the average American watches a little more than 150 hours of TV in the same period. The more entertainment options we add, the more time people spend on Xbox. In the last six months, we’ve grown our entertainment library on Xbox to include more than 60 voice controlled applications and more than 200,000 premium movies and TV shows.

With the launch of Windows 8, we’ll bring Xbox entertainment to everyone. With Xbox on Windows 8 devices, we rapidly accelerate the reach of Xbox entertainment from more than 60 million people to hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

We understand that entertainment has become a multi-screen experience where you and your friends are watching TV, listening to music, and playing games while interacting with your tablets and phones in new ways. We’ve got ideas for making all the entertainment you love more personal, interactive and social across the devices you love—and on the phenomenal Windows 8 devices that are to come.

You’ll see the first of that next week at E3 where we will showcase the very best of Xbox. We’ll unveil new games, show new ways to enjoy the entertainment you love and, as always, we’ll have a few surprises to share!

I assume the 47% market share is hardware sales in US this year. They're way over 50% in the US if you include everything.

Edit: Mod (Suzz I assume) updated the title to 47% US market share, nobody is 100% sure what the 47% means.

Hopefully the positive Kinect sales figures will encourage third parties to spend more time developing worthwhile motion experiences.

Apparently EA are going to be big on Kinect at E3.

Is the N64 the biggest selling launch console ever in the US then?

EDIT - That graph is nuts. Theres never been a console with sales like 360 before, everything else peaks a few years in followed by a decline. Makes me wonder whats going to happen next gen, with all those 360s out there I don't see how MS can just dump them even in 2014.

It'd be interesting if 360 games worked on PCs running Windows 8 with a certain spec or above.

I mean I presume that can't happen, but it'd make for an interesting development.

Kinect is going to overtake Gamecube soon

I don't think it's just Kinect though that restarted 360 sales when other consoles have declined, they always had a great machine but the build quality was holding it back. 360s was a brilliant and much needed upgrade, they addressed all the flaws and even got wireless N into it.

Actually deserves more sales.

I think MS clarified that Xbox 360 games wouldn't work on Windows 8 PCs.

I still wonder what the attach rate for Kinect is in new vs existing users.

Probably a lot lower, I don't think Dance Central 2 or Kinect Sports 2 did anywhere near as well as the originals.

Not when you consider only 27m users aren't hooked up.

Actually, considering consoles with multiple accounts, you're probably looking at closer to 30 million consoles that have never even had a Silver subscription through their pipes.

Then those same people said Kinect would be a massive failure.

Predictions regarding MS seem to have gone very well this gen.
