A leaked video of a scene from Modern Warfare 3 being dubbed the game's 'No Russian' equivalent has hit the net.

Modern Warfare 2's No Russian level saw players take control of an undercover agent forced to join a group of terrorists in an attack on a fictitious Moscow airport in order to maintain their cover. Players were not forced to kill civilians, but they could massacre them if they wanted.

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

The section in question features a family of tourists in London on a daytrip to see Big Ben. A cutscene in which the player cannot intervene shows a father taking a movie of his daughter and the girl's mother when a truck pulls up and explodes beside them, blowing them to bits and releasing some sort of toxic gas.

Nothing more than a cheap attempt at stirring up controversy?

I don't think it's really any worse than what you see in movie/tv like 24 etc.

The Daily Mail are going to have a strawberry floating field day though!

Looked pretty well done to me and if it fits in with the context of the story (yeah, MW...story lol) well, I don't see the problem. We see stuff like this in movies all the while so what is the problem in an 18 rated video game. It is impossible to comment on the merits of the scene when viewed without context.

edit: Just like No Russian you even get a warning and the option to skip the scene so what more can they do? Having said that, if they are offering you the option to skip it you have to ask just how intrinsic is it to the story? Can you imagine watching a movie and having something flash up to tell you to close your eyes because you could be offended by the next scene? Just like an 18 movie you know it is for a mature audience and this is an 18 game so that 'should' be the end of it.

I remember we all said the context thing in COD2, & it still ended up being just as stupid. The story seems even more over-blown in this one. I have no problems with developers doing this, just as long as the story isn't so absurd it doesn't really feel warranted.

Big Ben in there. The red telephone booth. The post box. The pub. The pigeons. Even the Union Jack flag waving outside a building.

Yep, definitely done by Americans.

Is chemical bombs going off around Europe that absurd?

Definitely not upping the ante. It's tame compared to actually playing a fairly long segment were you gun down defenceless people.

That cut scene looks like something from Command & Conquer.

Yep, agreed.

I do wonder how the target audience of MW see something like this. I dunno though, maybe that is more me being all high and mighty and rightous. :?

Another key issue is No Russian was interactive and you chose what to do....this is a cutscene.

Planted story in the Daily Mail. These 'articles' are paid for by Activision.
