So I managed to pick myself up a absolutely mint boxed ZX Spectrum +2 last Friday.

It's the 'James Bond' special edition, which comes with the game and the gun. Can't believe how good a condition it's in considering how old it is. All the inserts and everything, couldn't help my curiosity so decided to take a punt on it (50 quid).

Thing is, I know absolutely nothing about the machine. Does anyone on here know a bit more? What games should I pick up. I'm amazed I got it to work on my LCD TV, but it's up and working, just need a few more games to have a blast on.

So then, Spectrum. Got one? Enjoy it? Let's discuss.

If you can find tapes of games, you should try and hunt down most of Ultimate's input: Knight lore, Underwurlde, Atic Atac, Alien8, Sabre Wulf, JetPac... they are all pretty great. WOrld of Spectrum is great for trying out games that you might be interested in as they are mostly playable online.

Chuckie Egg and Manic Miner are awesome platformers. the Hobbit and Terrormolinos are good text adventure games. Commando and Airwolf are good action games. The DIzzy games are apparently great (only played one of them myself).

Sadly some dickhead publishers have denied access to their games on the WoS site so anything by Ultimate or Codemasters and some others don't appear there. So no Dizzy games :x

You can also download a program to convert the files on WoS to .wav or mp3 files to transfer onto tapes and build your own collection.

Pretty much everything you might want is at the World of Spectrum website (except where distribution has been denied, like the Dizzy or Ultimate games :( )

The optimal setup is probably to get one of the cables that allows you to use an external tape-deck on the +2, and plug it into your PC. There are then programs that will let you "load" a tape image straight into the machine from the PC.

There are also hard drive interfaces available these days, but that's something for the future
