I'll have to see if I have any of my copies of Amiga Power, still, though even if I do, they're unlikely to be in great shape :(

I used to take my old CVGs into school and they used to get completeley battered. Speaking of CVG, a couple of new issues up at www.retromags.com

Great thread!

I just downloaded a PDF of Edge from 1994. Interesting (and very funny) to look through at the predicitions that people were making back then. :D

One thing I noticed though was the charts as they have the price of the games on there. Did we really pay £60 for Sonic 3? £48 for Kevin Keegan's Player Manager? £40 for Sim City 2000? £50 for NBA Jam?

I think I might stop moaning about the price of games today. :D

I paid £65 for Street Fighter 2: Turbo on the snes.

It was actually worth every penny!

I had it on the SNES as well but don’t remember paying that much!

£65 or more for a game (and not even one of the ridiculously priced Neo Geo games!) 15 or more years ago is crazy, when we moan about paying £30 now. I don’t remember being outraged at the time though, even though before the Megadrive/SNES era I had a Commodore 64 and was used to paying £3.99 tops. :D

I remember paying a stupid amount of money for Virtua Racing on the Megadrive. I can't remember how much though! Must have been over £60 and must have been just after Christmas or my birthday as there was no way I would have had that sort of money otherwise.

As far as I remember it it was the Playstation that really ushered in affordable RRP's for games here - very rarely did the likes of EB/Game sell PSOne titles for more than £35 and I used to use the £5 vouchers that were in OPM.

It was one of the major advantages of CD-based gaming. CDs are cheaper to mass-produce than ROM cartridges.

If anyone can find and scan the last 20 or so issues of CVG I would be very grateful as I got 3 letters printed in consecutive months (I think), but I am unsure of the Issue Numbers, but reckon its in the last 20 issues. I stupidly chucked out a huge pile of magazines a good 5 years ago as I got frustrated by the amount of space they were taking up. :fp:

Yeah, it was quite a leap from Spectrum games (quattro packs: 4 games for £2.99!) to £50 a game on the snes, but it seemed justified for the added quality somehow.

I started scanning N64 magazine. Problem is my scanner cuts off two-three centimeters from the sides. Based on these samples, do I go on, y/n? Notice how the page number is cut out and stuff.

The text quality is bad because I downsized it to upload these samples, but it's perfectly clear on the original scans which I will upload in high quality.

If you have the time go for it, retromags.com are crying out for these.

The margins are usually blank anyway.

The quality leap was COLOSSAL.

Add to the leap in visual and audio quality massively superior controls and a complete lack of loading times, and yeah, the 16 bit consoles were finally reaching the point where the increased costs seemed worth it.

I really cannot find the time to scan the N64 Magazines like I promised.

Is anyone interested in having them? I have all numbers from 2 to 105 (issue 78 missing), and I'll give them to anyone who wants just for the price of postage.
