My PS3 after over 3 years service has finally died. Now, i have been quoted £69.99 to get it fixed but even then the warranty will onyl last 35 days, so potentially i could get it fixed only for it to die a month later and end up 70 quid down.

What on earth should i do? Should i just bite the bullet and buy a new one, I have seen a 250gb Modnation bundle for £184.99 which seems quite a decent offer.

Thoughts???

The obvious answer is to buy a new one if you can afford too. Send it to get repaired and they'll no doubt do the bare minimum to get it working again.

I've never had a console die on me before and it just seems such a massive cost!

I'd get a new one, if it is one of the old fat models then eventually it will just die again anyway and you'll be £70 out of pocket.

Sell your old one on Ebay for spares and recoup a few quid.

It can definitely be fixed. Youtube has a couple videos. I've fixed a couple of broken PS3s in my time in return for favours.

If you want any help let me know.

Should be in "ask the forum". But I agree you should bite the bullet and buy a new one, you may be able to pick up a 160GB model for £170 or less if you shop around.

Do the hairdryer trick to get it working temporarily then trade it in for a slim.

Hairdryer trick worked for me but I don't even know if it was the heatsink problem or something else, because it's still working 3 days later. I took the machine apart before I blew the hot air into it including taking out the hard drive so maybe it might have been that. I read a forum post about a guy who fixed his yellow light by just taking out the HD and putting it back in again.

I dunno.

I got it "fixed" and it died again shortly after. Just buy a new one, it's what I did.
