Do any of these feature EA's Online Pass? Wouldn't it mean some users paid extra to access these services?

According to GAF, the MMA game requires a online pass.

Also according to GAF, EA has the right to shut servers down after 30 days.

Yeah, think I'll be buying more of their games pre-owned now.

The Saboteur also had a pass, although AFAIK it was a nude pass, not an online one. Also note that only one of these affect the PC version.

They warn you as part of the online agreement that they can shut down their servers whenever they want so long as they give advance warning.

I dont see the problem with this, clearly no-one plays these things anymore. Get over it.

Some of these are pretty recent titles released within the last 12 months too aren't they?

Can you still buy the online passes for the ones that have them? Certainly wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

You could always use Hamachi or a service that picks up multiplayer hosting like GameRanger did with GRID etc....oh, console games. :shifty:

Turns out that the Sab content is an extra single player level that also happened to contain nudity, and will not be available after the shut down. I can't defend that.

I remember EA came late to the 360 party because they specifically wanted to run their own servers and not use Microsoft's. But does this mean that every other online non-EA game of this generation (even games from 2006) are still running because they use MS/Sony servers?

It's basically an extra room below the building you load in with naked strippers who dance upon request, utterly pointless but so is removing it

Its less that it has been removed and more that the means of enabling it are no longer present.

Remember when companies used to release dedicated servers so you could host your own multiplayer servers?

Disappointed about EA MMA. You still get a lot of people online on tht. I wanted to 1000G that game. Last few I need are online.

Would now be a bad time to bring up the Dreamcast version of Quake 3 that used standard Q3 dedicated servers?

Quote:
Perth, Western Australia -- June 21, 2011 -- GameRanger, the PC online gaming service, today announced multiplayer support for the recently shutdown Race Driver: GRID.

GameRanger has provided a new home for many other orphaned games such as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth series. GameRanger also became a popular replacement for the problematic built-in multiplayer services for Borderlands and Demigod.

The GameRanger service now supports over 600 multiplayer games with its fast, easy to use interface. Unlike other services, GameRanger solves router and firewall network problems automatically, making it simple to play online with friends. GameRanger now has over 1.7 million members.
