Hi all,
i decided to start this thread to show off some mods i did to my xbox and cube a few years back.

consider this a thread for any one that has done something similar, so they can show their mods off too, and to talk about electronic/mod related stuff.
first up - xbox (the dragon was painted by Green 'n00b' Gecko):

Cool Xbox. Not so keen on the Cube - isn't it distracting in play?

Your Xbox looks a bit like the Pokemon N64, was that intentional?

I have to say, I don't like the look of the Xbox, but the Gamecube is very stylish.

Both look really good in "RL" (the Xbox colours are a little off with the camera's flash), and I didn't really find the GC distracting.. It sold well for a GC on eBay though, about £35 or something wasn't it?

The blue light was better than orange that's for sure. Although it went well with the black GC.

Put some LEDs in my Xbox controllers, put an LED fan in the back of the box and upgraded some internal stuff. Have the pics on my home pc so Ill post em when I get home.

Planned to do much more but ran out of time and havent really had access to a proper work area since then. Its something Id like to do more but getting the space and time to do it is pretty tricky. I do have plans for my spare 360 but finding the time wont be easy.

it is the time to find which is the hardest thing. with all of my work that i have done, i did it on a carpeted floor on the desk which im using now, with my pc and monitor (except the painting).
i have done some controller mods where you put LED's under the buttons, and that was the most fiddly and annoying (and quite difficult) mod i have ever done (except chipping a ps2).

the game cube sold for about £50.

i first used about 4-6 thin coats of white primer, then about 5-8 thin coats of plastic paint. you should only use spray paint, using a brush will screw things up. you can also use a clear coat on the outside to give a nice finish and protective layer. in answer to your question, im not exactly sure if these paints are definitely oil based, but thats my bet. there are lots of guides on the net to help you if you want to paint plastic, especially consoles. make sure you clean the plastic first, also use good masking tape and newspaper where you dont want paint.

The hardest part would be getting somewhere to plastic mould the case. But God it must be heavy !

the problem is there not hand modded, it is machine painted/printed (and cut for some of it) (i might be wrong but im pretty sure im not), although they look good they dont show great skill, just good use of tools.

check out :

Fair point. But the creativity that went into them is impressive. Just beacuse they have access to professional tools dosent mean theyre any less impressive.

I hate mods that just turn consoles/pc's into xmas trees, it looks horrible and really tacky.

i agree to a certain extent, although its all subjective really. doing the mods is all a bit of fun and a learning curve that could be potentially useful, and the console you mod becomes unique, which isnt amazing but still none the less unique.
