You may remember that, last year, I took part in a 24 hour gaming marathon called Sick Kids Save Point. It was organised in an effort to raise money for the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh (which it did a pretty damn good job of).

I had a tremendous time before, during and after the event and it was great to see folk on the forum coming together to help out with suggestions and donations. Because of this, I raised over £1500 which contributed towards the overall amount of £21,000. The involvement of the people on here is something that I’ll never forget.

Here’s a link to the thread I created at the time:

SKSP 2011

SKSP is happening again in October this year, the hospital will always need funding to continue the work they tirelessly carry out and the organisers are keen to continue supporting it in any way they can.

I’ve decided not to take part, although I am still raising funds for the hospital via a climb up Ben Nevis (quite the task for a fat lad), but I had so much fun doing last year’s that I’d thought I’d turn to you, the forum, in the hope that someone steps up to take part and become

SKSP GRcade Representative 2012

(think of it as Dick Grayson taking on the mantle of Batman while Bruce Wayne was lost in time or something*).

Saying that, it doesn’t just have to one person, it would be even better if a few people all got together to take part.

Feel free to ask any questions in the thread or via PM, the SKSP site has links for setting up your JustGiving page and you’ll find plenty info about the last two marathons.

http://www.sickkidssavepoint.org/

Whadyareckon?

*I am in no way comparing myself to Bruce Wayne or Dick Grayson.**

**Actually, maybe Dick Grayson, because he was awesome as Batman. But I am definitely not comparing myself to Bruce Wayne.***

***Wait, no, hold on. Bruce Wayne is awesome too.****

****Sod the comparisons, I am Batman.

So you'll climb a mountain for charity but you weren't up for playing football? You make me sick.

Buff

It can be whatever you want! I went for the terrible games option because I'm an idiot. It ended up not being too bad, lots of different games certainly broke things up, but my sanity was stretched on more than one occasion because of it. If you do want to give it a go, sign up at the link!

BID0, that would be epic. Go for it!

I too am up for this. If I can get it sorted by then, I may even be able to set up a live stream for maximum lulz.

I'm genuinely up for this, for a good cause and all that.

Dibs guitar or bass though.

That has to be 20+ hours non stop playing. I think each instrument would need a team of at least 2 people though

We could have a twitcam feed or whatever for each of the 4 people? Or somehow combine 4 webcams into a quad image. Then the spare people on each instrument could do jokes/competitions etc?

How about a GRCade World record attempt? Look for a game that already has the record set (or might not, any big shooting/driving games due out when this is due)? I think you'd need a team capable of beating 72+hrs nonstop (in a rotation) to beat it.

Thoughts?

Awesome! There were a few folk who did live streams last year and there certainly were a good amount of lulz.

A couple of twitter names you may want to follow if you are looking to sign up:

@SKsavepoint and @tomwfreeman (the organiser, very nice guy)

I had a look online earlier and there's a whole section covering video games on the Guinness World Records sites (43 hours on Oblivion was one that caught my eye), I never knew it was such a big thing. May well be worth looking into.

Because it was only after I made the page that you said we should use the same one, and alas, it won't let me change it now. I can still delete the page, so I'll just do that and make a new one.

Lazy chode.
