Abortion of a site. Whenever anything happens in Japan they try their hardest to link it to video games for no apparent reason. Sensationalist headlines for hit-grabbing articles (I know most sites do this, but Kotaku are the worst for this). Absolutely shocking "journalism" with no fact checking whatsoever, and when they do make a glaring mistake they often update it without owning up. Barring Steven Totilo, all their editors are terrible and wouldn't know proper journalism if it hit them in the face.

Plus the actual design of the site.

It used to be OK. It was the first games blog I followed and it did its job of keeping me up to date with what was going on in that sphere. Nowadays though it's tabloid trash. The new layout is an abomination, the journalism comparable to that in The Sun or Mirror and reviews often take the Destructoid route and diverge heavily from the crowd. It's pretty bad.

I thought all that "tabloid" garbage was why people liked the site - because anything even half game related gets posted.


Personally, whenever I've loaded it up it's just been covered in that crap and I never bothered reading any of it.

I don't see why not. They pay their writers, and I don't see why being a blog exempts it in the first place.

But yeah, I don't see why blogs should be exempt from criticism. They're not all bad. On one end of the scale you have the excellent Rock, Paper, Shotgun and Wired's Game|Life and at the other end you have trash like Kotaku (always been bad) and VG247 (used to be good but the quality fell of a strawberry floating cliff around a year and a half ago)
