Consumer rights group Gamers' Voice has made good on its promise to report Activision UK to the Office of Fair Trading over the PC and PlayStation 3 versions of Treyarch's shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops.

In an open letter to the OFT, it claims Activision UK is in breach of the Sale of Goods Act 1979, which states that when a consumer buys goods they must be: as described; of a satisfactory quality; and fit for any purpose made known at the time of sale to the seller.

Gamers' Voice claims it has received reports of a "never-ending list of problems" with the PC and PS3 versions of the fastest-selling game of all time.

In December last year developer Treyarch admitted there were problems with the PS3 version and pledged to do something about it.

However, Gamers' Voice said this morning that the game's problems "render it almost useless as the piece of entertainment the game purports to be", with multiplayer a particular concern.

"With it not functioning as intended, we can only conclude that as a product it is faulty and should not have been released in this state.

"To make a comparison to a more familiar product, it is akin to buying a fridge-freezer only to find that the freezer component doesn't work."

Activision can't even be bothered to get the on-screen graphics right in the latest patch...

Didn't Shift on 360 have a message about PlayStation Store in it?

If you want to play Call of Duty, it's the price you must pay.

don't think it has more (or any less) problems then any other occasional issue with multi-player games on the 360. Seems the ps3 one has been the worst and reports the pc version also has issues online too.

Awesome news. Too many devs think they can get away with unfinished products thanks to updates, they've gotten lazy. If the kind of bugs that we get to today popped up as frequently in previous generations of hardware it would be unacceptable. Don't get me wrong, being able to fix problems post release is great, but you shouldn't rely on that. I understand that the final crunch time of developement is hard and it is very tempting to put off fixing problems as a patch rather than risk delaying your release, however it's really not acceptable from the point of view of consumers.

it needed a beta tis all. rather then the arrogant "we'll let the public test it and fix it then, maybe" attitude they have with cod... still some credit to treyarch needs to be given, mw2 on ps3 is an utter strawberry floating shambles and has been since launch. infinity ward couldn't care less about that however. treyarch do at least seem genuinely interested in making the game work across all its platforms with regular contact with its community and patches...

Still a 3 month beta, to the public really would have sorted out the network issues many are having with it would be needed.

I'm sure MS said they spent a lot of money improving the capacity of Xbox Live for Black Ops, the others obviously didn't.
