Following from the Nextbox topic, would you still buy new games if you knew you'd be stuck with them for life? Take into account things such as long term collections, buying to try because there's no demo, and whether you've bought second hand games before.

You've kept EVERY game you ever bought?

In my whole life I've bought around 200 games but I only currently own 40 (mainly Dreamcast, Saturn, Xbox 360) which I'd like to keep long term.

I don't buy any games for £40 now, but if you just mean would I buy a game at launch if I couldn't resell it, I'd say yes but it depends on the game. For games I'm not sure I'd enjoy I'd wait for cheaper prices, but I kinda do that already anyway.

Can't remember the last game I bought for £40.

I hardly trade games in anyway, but I'd certainly be less inclined to take a risk on a game if there's no option to trade it in against a better game.

No is the answer, it's simply too much for most games, with very few exceptions. The exceptions tend to be multiplayer games with lasting appeal. Currently this is BF3, previously it's been the iterations of COD.

The most I will ever pay for new games is £30-35 and I have to make an exception. Generally I wait until sub £20.

I simply don't have time to play all the new games and maintain a catalogue on the basis that I one day, may want to go back to it. There are a few exceptions, those titles that I consider to be the best (some halo titles, the batmans, ME etc) and those which I play mp with.

If I was sure I wasn't going to trade it/sell it/play it elsewhere later, then yes. Games such as GTA & Gran Turismo would fit into this category.

Then there are games that I would only buy if they were heavily discounted & have a pretty poor sell-on value anyway (yearly sports franchises, for example). Nobody pays £45 for FIFA anyway, & by the time you've had your year it's worth practically naff all.

Then there are the games you can ace in a week or two, put on ebay, & then sell for the same - & occasionally more - than you originally paid for it. Call of Duty falls into this category. In this case I simply wouldn't buy it.

Twice a year. That's how often there's a game I know I want enough to pay fullprice on day one.

Bar fifa, forza and cod i wouldn't, i definitely wouldn't pay £40 quid for a game on steam since it's not even a case, i do think theres going to be alot of piracy if its acceptable to people that 40 quid is reasonable for a non physical copy.

I'd be more upset about the lack of ability to rent games than about selling the games. I wouldn't even mind if they found a way to ask a nominal fee over live or PSN (say 50p) to play rentals so the developers get some cash.

So if you bought a game without trying a demo and found that you didn't like it, you'd be happy to let it just collect dust in your house for the rest of your life?
