No, I'm pretty sure we're allowed to have opinions on the quality of podcasts, especially when there seem to be hundreds of them now. And Weekend Confirmed, for all its 'officialness', has way more shite or straight up boring episodes than good ones.

Theres nothing 'official' about it.

I think you have ridiculous expectations of it and a lot of the comments are snobbish, especially when the podcasts recommended instead are pretty much all utter shite.

Weekend Confirmed has (or at least had) obnoxious music breaks with terrible tunes chosen by Garnett and ones done by their producer, "Del Rio".

Actually they cut out the music, they still have the short music bits between segments but thats hardly an issue.

I never got the problem people had with the music they played either...just skip the track, hardly a huge imposition.

I don't have ridiculous expectations of it. As I said, all I expect of a podcast is for it to be good, and therefore entertaining.

Do they still play a gooseberry fool song with clips of the shite they said the week previously?

It's not even the music that makes it impossible to listen to. It's Garnett Lee and his absolutely strawberry floating gooseberry fool guests he manages to get each week.

When they started out with just Garnett, Jeff, Brian and Billy on and off, it was the perfect sweet spot. Unfortunately, after Brian left they floundered about trying to replace the 3rd chair with terrible guests such as Christian 'I'm a Comedian but in no way funny' Spicer and Andrea 'I'm pretty, but offer nothing else' Renee. Not to mention the awful episodes where they've let Del Rio sit in and chat absolute bollocks.

You haven't been listening lately then because now they have Ariel 'I'm Garnett's girlfriend, Hey-ho!' Angelotti on quite a lot.

Seriously though, Garnett and Jeff Cannata are usually good enough to listen to.

Garnett is an actual idiot.

So I listened to:

-The Weekend Confirmed where they talk about Alan Wake AN. I found it unbelievably annoying at first, and stopped listening to it when I realised that Garnett only really works when there's people to tell him what an idiot he is and to shut up. He also still does the thing where he states the obvious with the view that it is either something totally revelatory or controversial. They kept trying to get this girl to say Heyo! Which is much worse than it sounds and it sounds horrible.

I then switched the the Live 8-4 Play and the douchebaggery nearly destroyed me. They spend far, far too long on their idiotic introductions and I feel like you lot were trolling me as they spent a huge amount of time talking about Weird Japanese Games. Bloody Suikodden.

I then switched back to Weekend Confirmed and listened to the whole thing, as I had nothing else on my phone. It was bearable but nothing fantastic. That arsehole kept shouting about how he swears and stuff during games but he's enjoying it and he was basically just playing up to the inane girl who kept laughing at his bull.

After getting through that, I gave the 8-4 Play with James Mielke and it was much better. The segment with him was excellent. What a dude. They also have this guy who sounds like Anthony from GFW Radio (possibly that horrendous looking Geekbox podcast now?) and he seems okay.


After that I went back and finished off their Live one. Still not great.



tl;dr - If you're name isn't Luke Smith, Shawn Elliott, James Mielke or Jeff Greene, I have no patience for anyone on podcasts.

The Golden Age Of (Gaming) Podcasts is clearly over.

There's no Anthony on The Geekbox. It's Ryan Scott's podcast.

If you're talking about Anthony Gallegos his podcast is Rebel FM.

Both The Geekbox and Rebel FM are actually good.

Harry can you listen to Rebel FM just so I can hear how much you hate it afterwards.

I suppose it depends who's on it.

O'Donnell and Chandronet are both awful and they often stick up the podcast nowadays.

If it was Anthony, Tyler and Arthur, though.

I listened to it back when they started it when 1Up disintegrated.

I remember a couple of douchebags and Anthony sitting in an apartment in the ghetto (Oakland?).


Isn't that the podcast where they were like "give us monies for food, plz" and then the guy everyone hates bought like a gaming rig with that money?



The 1Up Show, 1Up Yours and GFW Radio were so good. Even EGM Live was better than pretty much everything out there at the moment.



edit: Chandronet is the bald guy, right? I hate that guy. On a side note: Is he a homosexual? I was always pretty convinced that he and that fat Ryan gimp were boyfriends.

I think the rumour was that Tyler bought it not Arthur but I think it was found out later to be false.

I'm looking forward to see how The Vox podcast turns out once the site gets going. As long as they never get Nilay Patel to guest it should be decent.

GWJ can be good but the current episode is very board game heavy so I'd wait until Wednesday to check it out.

So was I until I saw some of the people working on the site.
