......predicts Pachter.

Quote:
Asked if it was releasing Wii U prematurely by a viewer, the Wedbush Morgan analyst said in his GameTrailers show Pach-Attack: “The reason that you’re saying that it’s premature, I think you’re really trying to suggest that it’s not going to sell well.

“I think that if in fact it’s a lot like an Xbox 360 in terms of graphics, frame rate and control scheme, then it’s probably not going to sell well unless it’s priced a lot cheaper, and I don’t think they’re launching the console at $150.

“So, yeah I think they are about to Dreamcast themselves. I don’t think Wii U is going to be as popular as probably Nintendo thinks it’s going to be. Question is, what does Nintendo do next, and I don’t know the answer yet. Let’s see howWii U sells, and I’m not going to predict this demise until I know pricing and features. When I know more about it, I’ll offer a better opinion.”

Has Pachter ever made an accurate Nintendo prediction?

The failure of Dreamcast/Saturn was entirely down to 32X and it's knock on effects.

I certainly think sales could be affected by Microsoft or Sony announcing something vastly more powerful before the WiiU launches but whether or not that will push the machine into a sales flop is another matter. It all depends on just how innovative the controller is.

The lack of Wii HD still burns Pachter hard, I see.

How much does he contradict himself there?!

That's almost the definition of a gobshite. "Here's an ill-thought-out opinion backed up with some things I've made up."

A sensible person would have stuck to simply saying the second bit I've bolded: "I have no facts to hand; I can't offer an opinion at this stage."

i have no love for Pachter, but to be fair he was asked a question to which his response was effectively 'IF what we expect is true then I would think this...but we don't know for certain so that might not be the case"

Nintendo is in no danger of crashing out Dreamcast-style. They've handled their finances very well lately, and even if the Wii U is a bit risky for returning (to a degree) to Sony and MS' graphics wars and the "core" gaming audience that comes with that turf, they can withstand several generations of huge flops before they could be in a similar position to Sega circa 2000.

Which is why I only quoted the second part of what he said. His first answers were actually ok - suitably couched with ifs and buts. But he obviously himself got on a roll and brought the Dreamcast bit in. He should have just shut up :fp:

Surely they have learned the lessons from Wii and will not release a console only as powrful as the last gen again, 360 is seven years old now so it needs to be a big step up from that.

Dreamcast was awesome.

It was the idiot consumers that were the problem. Them and Sony.

The trick will be managing to do the same thing twice though. I'm not sure anything Nintendo try will have the same wow factor the Wii had and pull in the same casual crowd and the more serious gamers will not want something only slightly more powerful than machines they already own. I still think the Wii U will be a marginal success it's just that some people will call that a failure after the unprecedented popularity of the Wii.

It was sega's fault. Stop making excuses. Excuses are for losers.

They seem to have done OK with an underpowered console. Only now are Wii sales dropping significantly and as their next console isn't too far away, it is the other manufacturers who need to take lessons from Nintendo.

Depends if they want any long term third party support, it's needed or your consoles life span is far shorter as with Wii.
