The legal handcuffs are off and CVG can finally confirm that the Forza Horizon trailer leaked over the weekend is indeed real - and that the Xbox 360 game's releasing later this year.
At Microsoft's Xbox Spring Showcase in San Francisco last week, Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt confirmed the title via the aforementioned 'concept' video, which includes no gameplay but plenty of ladies in bikinis and sports cars cruising through music festivals.
Horizon is being developed by UK upstart Playground Games, formed in 2009 by ex-Codemasters execs Trevor Williams and Nick Wheelwright and staffed with veterans from Black Rock, Bizarre Creations and Slightly Mad.
No firm gameplay details were offered in Microsoft's San Fran presentation, although its press release describes the spin-off as a "fast-paced, pick-up-and-play racing game", before going on to confirm an autumn release window.
"This is the creative and management team that brought us Colin McRae, DiRT, GRID as well as Toca," Forza 4 director Greenawalt told CVG. "Those guys stepped away from Codemasters studio and started their own studio about two years ago.
"At that same time we were looking for a partner to push our vision - gamers as car lovers and car lovers as gamers. We wanted them to embrace this vision but also come up with their own way of executing their own thoughts, so we could expand the house - not just duplicate it."
The Turn 10 man confirmed that more details on Horizon will come as "part of the march to E3".
